Yea, since the first reviews of this vehicle, it appeared it was developed by a society where the incentives and oversights were broken.

Father-in-law is Vietnamese. His words on Vinfast: "I would never buy one. Even in Vietnam there were considered cheap and unsafe, I don't think much has changed."

How in the world did VinFast think that they could sneak such a vehicle through especially in the US?

They will never recover from such a horrible launch.

A better question may be- How the heck did the US allow these to be sold and driven on public streets?

Are there no safety checks and protocols required to sell cars here?

That's a good question, other than emission control, and basic safety regulations like headlights, are there any regulation requirements on how a car drives?

No, none. They have to meet minimum roadworthiness and safety guidelines, but that is all the "quality" requirement they have to meet.

The reviews I've read have been overall favorable, but many of them also noted the weird disparity between different reviews on other sites. The conclusion is that quality control is probably a problem, where there are some good vehicles whose only problem seems to be software, and then there are vehicles that seem to have mechanical faults. That isn't the most worrisome part to me - the most worrisome part is the company allowing journalists to use vehicles that weren't in top condition. If the company can't even be bothered to make sure that their demo vehicles are flawless - these being the vehicles that are going to form the basis of opinions that define this company in America, and possibly the world stage - then how can we expect them to care about quality control for standard consumer vehicles?

Didn't they just secure BILLIONS of dollars of new funding? Surely these investors would have tested the car extensively before investing?
I can't quite remember, but I think it was the owner of the parent company, Vingroup, that used his own money for the infusion. I know the financial position of Vinfast is tenuous right now.

it CAN'T be bad - sandy munro LIKED it a LOT. guess ol' sandy isn't always on target. 😏
Although Sandy is usually coming from the cost to build, design and engineering perspective. Not the living with day to day. I never felt he reviews cars in the same way Fully Charged, Auto Focus or Transport Evolved does.

That's what I am thinking. Perhaps the Vietnamese consumer is not the same as the American consumer. We are brutal when it comes to tolerance for crap. Ha, just read through this forum 😂. Tough crowd.

Don't be too sure. Kia and Hyundai have (mostly) shaken their cheap crap perception. Emphasis on "mostly" because I know there are those among us that will still never touch those brands. Apparently the Telluride is rather nice.

But that took decades of building better cars.

And their cheap cars? Still sold because they were CHEAP.

This pile of garbage is expensive. Going to be a complete failure. It sounds like it has literally no redeeming qualities. And it’s ugly.

Good points. I forgot about Vinfast's asking price. Well I tried. Sorry Vinfast. Too bad, so sad.

as with all of us, sandy has opinions. to their credit, Munro Live has developed an effective megaphone for sandy to evangelize and market his.

i appreciate his (and his team's) experience and opinions on the tear downs and build details. he does get a bit full of himself - as do many of us. 😏

Marques Brownlee's review. It's not as bad as the Fisker Ocean, lol.
