The Mach E actually stands a LOT to improve. It could gain 800v architecture, high rpm motors or a 2-speed, better thermal management and wiring, etc. I think it is cars like Tesla, EV6, Taycan, etc. that won't have much to improve upon. Maybe higher energy density batteries by a few % or so. Solid State is the next industry leap, but Toyota has promised that since 2017, so...
For sure it could.

I just don’t think it’ll change that much.

And to the point at hand, none of the tech you mentioned (except solid state) is new.

But even solid state (if we ever get it) is just an incremental change. Still suffers from all the same issues battery powered cars in the 1920s had- cost, range, weight and charging.

People keep saying to wait 3-5 years and car tech X will be obsolete. I just don’t buy into that belief.

I actually wonder a bit of “where do we go from here?”

We have 1000+ hp sedans and SUVs running 9s in the 1/4 mile for around $90k. At least in terms of performance, that doesn’t give you anywhere to go but down at this point.

I agree in general, but the Mach E really needs to move forward. They need to fix the power cut by using correctly designed components which can handle load for more than 5 seconds, and they need to speed charging up to at least where Tesla is, if not better. I think after they do those two things, the rest is incremental. 20K rpm motors or a 2-speed transmission would be nice, too, while they're at it.

And, even though I am madly in love with my, MMEGT, I leased the bad boy because I know in 36 months batteries are going to be completely different out there and a 260 mile range will be laughable
If you believe everything Musk says.
The MME is big and heavy, so it takes a hit in the range. I’d say all but Tesla will still be sitting in the same battery tech at least 5 years from now. EA will come out with 800kW chargers and 3 cars will be able to charge around 400kW for 3 minutes. And the EV crowd will cheer! Then we’ll see the same buy and bubble like the last 2 years as mass amounts of people would believe the hype, then realize otherwise. The sane ones will realize 350 mile range is more than enough to get to the next SuperCharger, because by 5 years others might actually be able to use it.

acces to Tesla chargers isn’t going to turn the EV world upside down. It’ll be the start of brand wars at ‘the pump’. Expect a line of ID4’s parked like drunks and a bunch of broken handles.

Yup. Minus the $7500 tax credit I still lost $12K on that deal. Annoying. Made up for it with the $7500 tax credit and selling my RAV4 Prime for $3K over what I paid, though, the year prior. All in all the last few years were fun and I swapped cars a lot until I found what I loved.

I've been following the Audi GT closely and it's so tempting to buy a 2022 for 60k. 1 year ago it was 110k before Dealer markups.

But they seem to have tons of recalls and dealer buybacks that it's scaring me off.
Not worth it . I had it for two months and returned it . It’s a very beautiful car but my Mach e GTPE has been a better car for me . The Audi doors would rattle and had issues with charging it . I took a loss of 29k

I don't think battery tech changes drastically, more like an incremental improvement. With few exceptions, we won't get cars > the 350-mile range. That seems to be the sweet spot. When battery tech improves, we'll just need less battery to achieve that range.

So I don't see a point in waiting. There's always the next big thing around the corner.

Love the color schemes.

Even the house is black and white! ?

You have to seriously hate a car to take a $29k loss in 2 months and still decide to sell it.

I bought a Volvo, 2023, C40 in Aug 2022 for $63K. I traded it in in Feb 2023 for $42K.
Interesting. My husband bought a certified used 2022 C40 about 4 months ago, and he loves it. It's not a perfect car, but his lacks the weird steering wheel vibration issue, and the tiny rear windshield isn't as bothersome to him as it might be for others. Also, at that price, and with less than 5000 miles on it when he purchased it, it's probably easier to forgive quirks. I'm sorry yours was apparently a bad one, but I am glad you found a car that fits you better now.

Door rattles , issues with charging . Software glitches . Never any solutions from the dealer

Aside from the vibration:

-Paint was amazing. Body construction very good with a few foibles: When it rained, you got a tapping sound from the drains, and the rear triangle trim by the door was trying to rip off of the car every time you opened the rear doors. The car felt very solid.

-Suspension was stiff and not very well set up. It felt like Volvo's solution was "Just make it stiffer, that's how you make a car handle, right?" Stiffen her up! Rebound control? Soften the front sway? Huh? No, Hans! JUST MAKE IT ALL STIFF AF!!!!"

-The range was about as rated. One very thirsty EV. My EV6 GT, I leave the house at 80%, commute to work, get home, and am at 47-50% in good weather. My C40, I leave the house at 90% (per recommendation on the dash), and also get home at about 50-54%.

-Features: The NAV is amazing! Absolutely awesome Google integration. Great sound system, too. Love HK. Otherwise, what features? It has none.

-The sound deadening is suspiciously missing. I could hear people talking in their cars at red lights. Not even laminated front windows!

-TCAM failure...learn how to hard reset your TCAM. It will deadline your car almost and really freak out out on a trip. Put the physical keyfob in the RFID reader by the center console and it will allow you to drive without TCAM function, until you can get home and physically do a hard reset. You have to disconnect the fuse AND pull the small backup battery out of the TCAM in the hatch area. It's a PITA.

-AWD traction is amazing in the C40. It got me home in some horrific ice in the mountains on PSAS4's. both the tire and car are flat out amazing for that!

-Looks: I really liked them! That's why I bought it. That, and MSRP could be had. This was in mid 2022.

I heard people making these claims when I bought my Mach E almost 3 years ago. Three years later the battery and range are the same and fairly standard in the market.

It was just not a good car . The power was not as I expected my Mach e gt felt more powerful . The software glitches and the issues with charging I just got fed up . And where I lived in the valley only one Audi dealer . I’d have to drive four hours for another one

If you think the prices are low now, check back when everyone has moved on to the tesla charging port. Current ones will be like the 8 tracks of the EV world.
