So, here's an unusual one. Wife driving 23' red Prem AWD Ext one morning on 45mph road near our home when a Canadian Goose (yes, you read that correctly) flew in front of the car, went "thump, thump, thump" under the car and out the back. Wife saw the body in the rearview, was not getting any errors so assumed nothing was damaged and went on her merry way. Please no comment about her decision... we've already had THAT conversation.
Anyway turns out that the impact broke out ALL the louvers in the front air scoop and also broke the interior enclosure plus the mount for the forward radar. There is no body damage other than a small dent (purple circle). I even managed to recover most all the louvers from the scoop area. See pics.
Filed an online claim with our insurance (whom I will not name until this gets sorted). Sent requested pictures and wife had a phone interview with an "adjuster". No one came out to look at the vehicle at any time. Couple of weeks later we get a registered fedex letter stating that our claim was denied. The only reason given was a "cut and paste" section that talked about "withholding information", "making fraudulent claims" and making false statements. Apparently because there were no feathers, body parts or blood (only one tiny spot in the purple area but that could have been a juicy bug) then their claim is that most likely we hit a curb or went over a high speed bump too fast... REALLY?
Needless to say we were PISSED being told we were trying to commit fraud We have had this insurance company for over 15 years and the only claim made to date was for a cracked windshield. We also pointed out that if we were going to lie about damage to the car we would have picked something a little more believable dontcha think?
To not go on too long about this our local agent is now deeply involved with her comment being "this is stupid". She managed to get hold of the national 'something or other' manager and the claim is now being re-examined. Fingers crossed.
