15,000 with adapter by Spring 2024 from Ford deal.

3,500 with no adapter, i.e. Magic Dock, by end of 2024 per deal with Feds.

The problem is that EA is crap. At a location recently I had to wait a half hour. 3 working Tesla Superchargers empty. People with free charging can't get it free there. Some places have no EA like Vermont.

I do hate giving Elon money.
EA is *sometimes* crap. We still continue to have mostly good experiences with them. No problems on our latest 1800 mile trip the last 2 weeks. And just a few serious problems in 200+ EA charges over the last 3 years.

But, all it takes is one really bad one to turn people off to them. I always think of my dad not wanting to go to any Marie Callender's restaurant for the rest of his 91 year life, because he had a bad experience at one when he was like 50. ?

There are a few chronic problem stations we try to avoid though, and will be happy to see a viable SC station there as a backup. Unfortunately our top location we want one only has V2's, so it'll be worthless to us until they upgrade.

Ah, chargers, not stations. That sounds more likely.

I would speculate it will be around $250 which is the same price as Tesla sells their CCS Combo 1 adapter for, but who really knows. It would be nice though if ford offered some sort of discount on this for people that purchased cars earlier.
I think this would be a proper and fitting use for FordPass Rewards Points. Accessory online. Yes, there will be a surge on them, but that would make more sense than shipping thousands of adapters to folks who may use them less than their air pump. They could handle this in many different custome- friendly ways.

Yes, Tesla has expanded the network quite a bit since that initial announcement. Impressive pace.

So how is it that Tesla seems to be able to roll-out new SC locations so quickly and yet I read that in some places new DCFC installations are hung up in a year+ (sometimes 2?) of government red tape?

Did they start years ago and it just looks “fast” because we are just seeing them pop up now or are they genuinely able to execute faster?

Example: Green Bay, Wisconsin has zero CCS DCFC chargers today. 16 months ago, EA broke ground for a six stall 350kW charger installation at one of the local Meijer stores which features Tesla Superchargers across the parking lot. As of today, EA has not energized the location yet. Worse, potential customers have dug into this situation by contacting local politicians, the local power company, Meijer and EA. EA's statements on this location do not match what the local's are stating. The local power company WPS is aware of the situation and states we are ready but EA continues to push back the opening. There may be a serious issue with the private contractors working for EA with their work and/or lying about the situation. I can't image Tesla putting up with these private contractors.

Great question. I really don't know, other than to say they just have their shit together way better than the rest. Not just installs, but the whole Supercharger business. By some accounts, they do it 3x-5x cheaper too, which is astounding.

Part of it is vertical integration. While EA contracts out most of their work to local electricians and contractors, Tesla has their own. Allows them to schedule much better.

As for how they seem to get things done with local utilities much better, my guess is it's the Walmart/Sams/Costco approach. They're the big dog with big volume. Gets more done. Maybe?

As European that has had Tesla access for some time now (over a year), it sure would be nice if Ford could let us navigate to Tesla chargers. As it stands now the Tesla chargers are not visible in the mapping service, hence you cannot precondition the battery of hot or cold. Also, Tesla charging price is in Europe one of the cheapest, regardless of drop
-in price or subscription.

You can navigate to the 42 Tesla Magic Dock locations just fine...

Retired. I'd say it was a mid life crisis, but not many people live to 140.

There's no down side to this as far as I can see.

But it might not be all that people want it to be. Of the two supercharger stations within a few miles of my country home, one of them is not CCS compliant and would not work, adapter or not.

Ford and Tesla will have to be sure that the stations using CCS protocols are the only ones that show up in Ford navigation.

Tesla has an incredible reputation for keeping its network working all of the time, and I hope they can continue this way under the increased demand.

Tesla might be challenged insofar as the margin they would expect to produce on the sale of each adapter, too. We might fall out of our chairs when we see what these things are going to cost.

Ford knows that owners of their EVs today want a reasonably priced adapter, and that the network expanding with Tesla will impact their EV sales. The adapter will be reasonably priced IMO. I would expect existing owners to get an offer for a price that may be below what future owners pay.

I am happy to hear this but more overly concerned about how slowly the Mach E chargers compared to other vehicles. I have given up hope on Ford dealerships having chargers to charge while traveling, honestly I am finding that the Charge Point chargers at Hyundai dealerships fit the bill, everyone I have been to have 2-4 Charge point “Hyundai” branded Charge Point chargers fit the bill and charge at ~67kh/hr.

You are using slow DC chargers. Go to EA and you will nearly double that speed...

Then I welcome you to show me how this is done in Norway. As a practical example: Fokserød located close to Torp Airport in Sandefjord has a lot of Tesla chargers that is available for use, yet, if I use the infotainment system the only options I get are Ionity and other less known brands. Also worth noting that all chargers and all brands in Europe use either Chademo or CCS connector, so no need to a connector.
