My limited understanding was that the jail bars are the 5 second rule, state of charge, and speed. Here I’m stopped and have 80%. In case it’s a factor it’s 30 degrees outside so I don’t think temperature should factor in at least not this much. Am I missing any other factor? Its a 2023 GT

I was not plugged in since I was at 80 and was only gonna drive locally. Perhaps silly question- but I should plug in even if I’m already at my desired SOC just for the purposes of keeping the battery warm? Is that the purpose/value of ‘pre-conditioning’? Tbh I thought the main benefit of that was just to get the cabin warm for humans.

Don't worry about it. It's cold, and expected. It won't hurt anything but your 0-60

An EV battery is happiest around 68-77 degrees. Not the outside temperature but the temp of the battery itself.

30 degrees outside might not seem that cold to you but for your battery that is really uncomfortable.

Not worried per se', just trying to gain a better understanding. To be honest though, 0-60 is one of the reasons I enjoy the car, so I'd rather not have that taken away :)

ahh, so this is what the jailbars look like. I haven't seen them yet on my GT.

Then either you have never gone over 72, or run you battery below 80%. And must drive in San Diego. Like weather.

I'm sure you've seen at least one (when you're at say 90% or less charge), it's just hard to see.

I'll have to look more closely now that I know what I'm looking for. I normally only charge up to 85%.

I live 75 miles south of Canada. In winter below about 25F I always have this amount of jailbars. If I precondition my MME for half an hour before driving the jailbars go away. Very normal in cold weather
