Anybody trying to charge an EV on a major holiday weekend is crazy.
True to a large degree. Which just illustrates that the country (and most of the world) isn't ready for mass adoption of BEVs yet. Only gradual, spread over probably 2 more decades.

I always roll my eyes at the people that expect it way sooner (and grit my teeth at the governments enacting bans and mandates).

FORD TO OFFER COMPLIMENTARY TESLA SUPERCHARGER ADAPTER TO ELIGIBLE EV CUSTOMERS

JAN 31, 2024 | DEARBORN

Last year, Ford announced that its EV customers would gain access to Tesla Superchargers across the U.S. and Canada beginning in Spring 2024. As that moment approaches, Ford President and CEO Jim Farley said today that eligible Ford EV customers will soon be able to reserve a complimentary Fast Charging Adapter.

The Fast Charging Adapter will provide Ford F-150 Lightning, and Mustang Mach-E owners access to Tesla’s V3 and above Superchargers. Ford will start to transition to the NACS charge port from 2025, removing the need for an adapter for direct access to Tesla Superchargers.

For the latest on the BlueOval Charge Network – already North America’s largest public charging network before adding Tesla Supercharger access – click here.

Can we UK owners hope to get a Tesla adapter free as well?

Go fill up with gas on the NJ Turnpike on a holiday weekend...

go fill up at Costco on any random day of the week.
Depends on where. At home our Costco gas rarely has a line. But when we used to drive the Escape to Vegas, the Costco we used the most there was often crazy.

Of course, a line 5 deep for a gas pump is maybe a 15 minute delay. 5 deep at a DCFC charger would be like a 2 hour delay. With usually few (or no) backup options in range. Night and day.

US and Canada. Tesla already uses CCS2 handles there, don't they?
Yes, in Europe Tesla was mandated to use CCS2 on their cars and on the chargers. That is why the V3 and V4 chargers support CCS protocol, rather than the Tesla proprietary protocol. CCS cars in Europe can already use Tesla chargers.

This is all new to me as I have only ever used my home charger so far - good to know.

Supposed to be free. I want to know where to sign up…
We'll find out in time. We'll surely get notifications by VIN just like we get recall notices by VIN. Should already be "signed up" for that, if you get recall notices.

And no doubt the first ones that get the notice will be posting about it here.

Stay tuned. And have patience. Could still be months.

Five deep 15 minutes? So it only takes three minutes to pump gas and pay?

That's very location specific. By us, while there are lines sometimes, they aren't more than 5-10 minutes. There has NEVER been anyone directing traffic.

I have been at locations elsewhere and seen lanes of waiting traffic, and 1 or 2 staff members directing traffic. Crazy stuff.

All great, looking forward to receiving mine! That being said, I’m most interested in finding out whether these adapters can be locked or not. Would be really annoying to return from a much-needed rest break only to find that the car barely charged at all because someone unplugged the cord and took off with the adapter. No one should be able to unplug my car and run off with the adapter by simply pressing the big glowing button on my charge port. Sure hope they (or Tesla) really thought that through!

Glad I was wrong on the adapters not being

Unless you are five deep of giant trucks with empty 30 gallon tanks, three minutes is probably about right. Although I've been to pumps that are reeaaalllly slow, and I've actually left after just a few gallons.

. . . And not expecting a long wait is crazy! I can see it now that there will be legislation to shift holidays for BEV’s - odd plates this weekend and even next. All joking aside when I lived in Greece the traffic was so thick in Athens that they went to diving in the city allowed every other weekend based on your plate. I heard after I left it went to every other week!
