We accidentally discovered the hard way today that a dime fits in the gap between the parking brake switch and the bezel. Just so…you know…none if you feel compelled to find out.

The little metal tweezers from a Swiss Army knife would have been great, but a bent cheap wire key ring fished it out with some effort.

Alas, no pictures as we were too busy trying hard to not look like we were trying to steal the car as we fished it out in the grocery store parking lot. (Switch was fully operable, but we didn’t want it to have a chance to migrate on the ride home).

I never go anywhere without my Swiss Army Knife. The tweezers are one of the most perfectly engineered pieces of kit ever.

Did you use the loops of keyring like forceps, or bend it out straight to get under the coin?

Sadly, my Swiss Army knife was in our other vehicle. There was barely any room between the bezel and the dime, so I bent the ring into a dime sized hook and got under it after we tried unsuccessfully for a while to use various objects as makeshift tweezers.

Not to worry - coins are being recalled as they have been determined to be a choking hazard. The new safety coins will prevent this tragedy along with no longer fitting in gaps in our cars.

They should just coat coins with the bad-tasting stuff they put on coin-cell batteries. Because otherwise spare change is delicious, amirite? ?

A little over a decade ago, my wife and I took our first and only trip to Hawaii. Flew to SF, then on to O'ahu, then The Big Island.

As we went to board the plane to fly from O'ahu to The Big Island, my wife's stuff got flagged as it went through the x-ray. "Excuse me, can we search your bag?" It was like a movie when they say "hand over your weapons" and the person pulls a weapon out of every pocket. Out came 2 or 3 knives...

My wife - "I put them in the checked luggage when we flew from home, but I wanted them when we were here in case we needed to, you know, cut something or use tweezers"...

Cost me like $25 to ship them via a service with boxes at the airport, just for idiots like my wife. Never let her live that down.

My wife makes fun of me for having it, and then invariably needs it.
