Hmm, I don’t think you and I own the same car. Just to be clear I have a 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E California route one, built 4/17/2023. I have put 3000 miles on it the first month I owned it only using phone as a key and occasionally I did have to open the app and wait 5 seconds, but hey I’m 43 years old. I had to re-install a nearly bricked windows 95 operating system every four months just so that I could get online with a 14K dialup modem so waiting 4 to 5 seconds for my phone app to work for my car is OK by me. It’s not as if it’s 25% of my total lifetime. Perhaps I’ve had a lot of shitty experiences in my life and this car is the exact opposite of that. If your car has been in the shop for three months, like one of my gas powered vehicles has been and you have my total sympathy if you’re nitpicking and your car that has been 100% reliable and has not been in the shop, may I suggest you find an open road and put the pedal on the right to the floor- one or both ends of your mouth will turn to the sky ? that is if you and I own the same car. (in college I used to work for a car rental company that picked up its customers from dealerships I found that everybody sat together in the waiting room of a particular dealership all agreeing that that brand is a total piece of crap. I reminded them that I go to all the other car dealerships and everyone in the waiting room is only there to fix their car so of course it is an echo chamber of negativity towards a single brand.
Update, I didn’t have time to proofread. There are some voice dictation mistakes if Apple would just manage their products with their integration maybe my microphone would work better for voice dictation.

My last word on this thread: haters gonna hate. Me, I'm going to enjoy driving my (works just fine) MME.
Personally, I'm elated that you enjoy driving your MME and you appear satisfied with the purchase. I wish everyone felt the same.

Where I disagree with you is that I don't feel that anyone is hating in this thread. The only thing I've seen is examples of intolerance to others opinions and expectations regarding their purchase.

There's like 20 different people in this thread that have said the same thing I said, but I'm the one who always gets picked on ... anyway
I did notice that! Pretty weird if you ask me. I just 2-way ignore. Life is too short.

No one is hating. We want Ford to do better. I enjoy my car, but it’s a far cry from being problem free.

You know I defended Ford for a long time. It finally wore on me because of lack of transparency, failure to fix bugs, and regression. Yes we all had hopes of the promise to improve the car over time.

Being real about it... I don't know where my car has improved in 2 years, except for a slightly better charge curve. GTs came with BC. GTs came with frunk access. PaaK worked better when I first got the car. I didn't experience profile bugs or drive mode bugs until this year, UI got worse. For gosh sakes we can't even get real release notes... Can we blame Bosch for that too?

Farley's comments come off to me as preemptive to more bad news. We can't give you BC 1.2, because it's too hard with all our vendors, as an example. He's full of excuses and some people might be sympathetic to those excuses. I'm not.
I agree. I've commented previously that the software functionality reflects the system architecture. News to Farley: Does not matter if you use 150 vendors or 1,500 vendors, if the system is architected correctly and the Application Programming Interface is determined, then the vendors will produce what Ford specifies. The Farley interview confirms that Ford did not develop a sound and comprehensive architecture which would guide the software developers. Second item I've said previously is to test, test, test and test. A comprehensive and sound architecture provides the basis for effective testing.

Yikes 100 days in the shop sounds like my 2018 expedition. You do have my sympathies. I hope to dump that mess before the warranty is up. And thanks for going easy as you say, throwing bloody chum into a shark tank, that is not my intention. I’m more of a cross between a rodeo clown and Ex-lax. Perhaps waving a red flag to entice you to come out of that lousy corner where your lousy car is and find relief. I truly wish you a quick path to happiness. For me it does involve my right foot quickly tapping the accelerator so that my phone addicted family hits themselves in their face with their phone- which I only do after they don’t respond to questions such as what do you want for dinner or does anyone the rest stop coming up ahead? Seriously no ice engine hooked up to a slush box/automatic transmission has the throttle response and instant torque. The only vehicles I’ve love more than my 2023 Mach-e either had 3 Pedals or were topless. To your point after buying a first model year 2018 expedition I will never by a first year vehicle again no matter the company- so I see your point there’s no substitute for time testing and yes first model year vehicles tend to come out of the oven too soon…. (Ohh crap that was a violent shift out of 7th gear to 3rd I guess the repairs are never enough but that’s a different vehicle forum for me to complain on.)

That is wildly incorrect. It will charge the LVB when it needs to be charged. It charges it when it's low voltage. It charges it when it's charging the HVB and it charges it when it's being driven. All of which can happen multiple times in a day.

Here's a 48hr snapshot where it charged ~13 times in 48 hours.

Screenshot_20230712-140908.webp

And here's a copy of the LVB being topped off by the HVB for low voltage twice in 24 hours.

Screenshot_20230509-164924~2.webp
Of course it charges w/ key-on state and while charging the HVB. It's running ~35 amps of accessories. Unless there's been a strategy update regarding a parked vehicle, its own manual states that every 48hrs the vehicle will turn on the DCDC to provide 384 watt hours of 'charge'. Given the complaints of people having to do the poorly thought out 'jump' procedure, making a change to the strategy is a logical move. Not because it helps out the customer in a meaningful way, but to just save calls to the customer service line and reduces roadside assistance costs.

Did those fordpass notifications coincide with a charge event?

Yes, each time you get that notification the DCDC kicks in to charge the LVB.

They put a camera button where it goes.... but guess what? It's the worst of it's kind in any car. I've never seen one where if you press it while you're still slightly too fast.. it just waits until you're the right speed to turn on.
This drives me nuts, too. I think lots of manufacturers "lock-out" the camera button above a certain speed, but the Mach-E has it configured to lockout at a much too low speed. My Audi camera will turn on below 10mph (I believe), while the MME has to be at 5 or below.

Other camera issues is the camera turns off far too quickly (after turning on automatically when detecting a close obstruction e.g. when parking), and that the front camera doesn't turn on after going from reverse to forward. This is a great safety feature that again, my Audi has and I never realized how useful it would be until I had it.

But on the other hand, and this is where I get so frustrated, it should be so EASY to fix some of these issues. I’ll grant that PAAK is a bit of a riddle, but it should not be hard to update the software so that I can turn off my motion sensors, or so the car doesn’t always remote start to guest, or that I still can’t use FordPass to open my frunk, or that I have to tap into Settings to open my trunk from the inside, or that I have to tap a clip art house icon to pull up the app tray.
Agreed. Though the "guest" issue has been fixed for me for the past couple of months, though it happened to me again just a couple of days ago so perhaps it's gone from being a frequently occurring bug to a rare one. ?‍♂

A very enjoyable video. The F-150 story about the ability to run a home for 3-days being an afterthought was amazing.
Yes. Makes me wonder if Ford is going to bring the feature to the MME in a future update? Ford, if you're reading, this MME GT owner is very interested in V2H! I hope at the very least that it will be an available feature on all the Gen-2 models.

but I sure would appreciate PAAK performance to more closely approximate the FOB experience.
Same. The other day, I got in my MME to run errands and drove off without realizing I didn't have the FOB because PAAK worked seamlessly. Got to my destination and realized I didn't have my FOB. When I was ready to drive on to my next destination, car refused to start, of course. Used my backup passphrase to continue on.

When I was ready to drive home, rather than use the backup phrase again, I did the "magic incantation" of canceling the notification that Sync is trying to connect to my phone, turning off bluetooth, killing the Ford app, turning bluetooth back on, then starting the app again, and that worked and I was able to start car and drive home without using the backup passphrase.

PAAK is a useful feature to have, but it's irritating for it to be this unreliable. Actually, the biggest place I find it unreliable is remote start, which I like to do frequently to condition the cabin. The app often simply refuses to allow me to remote start without any explanation (the button is simply unresponsive) unless I perform the magic incantation as above.

I'm baffled. They outsourced all of the modules to different suppliers AND had them all write different pieces of software without thinking about compatibility?

That explains the software issues.
However, I expect a 100 year old car company should have had years of experience and in house Supply Chain negotiation procedures to minimize the issue and potential problems. For the CEO to have to explain this "excuse" is astounding, 5 years after the Mach E was originally designed.
I believe this is simply the way cars have been built for decades (not counting Tesla). Ford made changes to their "Gen 1" EVs so allow them to support OTA updates, but did so while mostly keeping the historical/legacy approach of integrating dozens of different module suppliers as a way to save time and get to market faster. A bit disappointing for those of us who suffer from issues, but I think somewhat understandable from Ford's perspective.

The next generation should hopefully be much better, assuming the Ford Model e division is been able to hire and retain sufficient software development talent to do a great job. Time will tell, but I'll be closely reading previews of the next-gen vehicles for indications of software quality before even thinking about purchasing.

We already purchased the vehicle, so our opinions don’t really matter.
Our opinions certainly do matter. If we're happy then we're more likely to buy more Ford EVs in the future, rather than going to another brand - and I'm sure Ford has seen the surveys showing that current EV buyers have less brand loyalty than traditional auto buyers. That can be a blessing or a curse. Then there's the fact that many of us do get asked questions by people who see the car, and people run searches and may read over our posts. If all of us were saying we'd never buy another Ford EV, that could negatively impact Ford's sales in the EV space. On the other hand, if all of us were singing the Mach-E's praises it would instill more confidence in potential buyers, and they may be willing to take the chance or pay a bit extra if they believe they're getting a more trustworthy product.

Forums are filled with complaints because it is a place for people to maybe get help.
True, but also reminds me of the business saying... "if your customer is happy, he will tell all of his friends. If your customer is unhappy, he will tell the whole world."

Can Ford do better? Yes, of course. I've been pretty pleased overall, though. I like the car and the overwhelming majority of software bugs have been fixed over the course of the 10 or so months I've owned it. Updates come frequently. As cars implement more technology I think they're taking on a downside to modern software, which is to ship in a largely functional state and then patch problems later, rather than releasing something that is flawless and perfect. I'm used to that, so maybe I give Ford more of a pass over it - particularly because the rate and effectiveness of updates is pretty strong. Ford seems to be the only legacy automaker at this time that is successfully copying that good part of Tesla.

Thanks for the link.

This "future update" was included in an OTA update over a year ago:
  • Unlock 2021 model Mustang Mach-E usable battery to the same level as 2022 models (from 68 to 70 kWh and from 88 to 91 kWh)
Mine was updated when the dealer did all the FDRS updates, but others got it via OTA. I guess it is in the future feature list because Ford never publicly notified us about it.
Thanks for pointing this out. This blurb was in the Wikipedia article when I copied it over and I've only been focused on the update table thus far, hence it living on in the GitHub. (I also have a 2022.)

I'm going through the rest of the page tonight, adding in a bunch of BlueCruise 1.3 info, so I will make sure this gets removed.

A continuing good list. Unfortunately it is not comprehensive and ignores the many ongoing failures endured by consumers as a result of these "updates".
For what it's worth, I'm not ignoring failures, that's just not the purpose of the list. The list is basically just the release notes, plus whatever module info I get from the always helpful members of this site with FDRS. I'm happy to include a "Known Bugs" section, if someone were to compile it.

In terms of comprehensiveness, if there is information missing, please send it my way, either here or via pull request, and I will make sure it gets incorporated! Thank you!
