Anecdotal evidence ie people telling me this and not science, it's always the rwd cars that if stuck in snow can't get out. Fwd are able to pull themselves out more. So people have said.

Awd costs roughly £10k more and a lower range.

If money isn't an issue I'd go awd as i'm in the countryside! But then I need the biggest range too as I do occasional long journeys.

Spencer has volunteered to buy both versions and test for us!

Thanks. I had a BMW a while back which I couldn't get out of my driveway (different house(, but apparently BMW rwd handle far worse than other rwd cars...however I don't know how true that is. What I do know is that once I am out of my road, driving won't be a problem so £10,000 seems a lot just to get out of my road.

This may have already been discussed but can’t seem to find it. Why is the UK long range topping out at 379 miles while the US version with the same battery tops out at 300 miles? Anyone have an explanation?

Europe and USA use different cycles to calculate the ranges. USA use EPA and Europe uses WLTP.
From what I can gather the USA cycle has more emphasis on long distance cruising while WLTP is more about shorter, stop/start driving.
Wouldn’t want it too simple now!?

Thank you! Had been racking my brain on this ?

Another question from me. Obviously I know if I want something great in the snow and on difficult terrain I should get the awd, but does anyone know (or has anyone seen a review) of how the rwd copes on slightly icy roads (think London roads, not Canadian conditions), or in slight snow. I would only be travelling 5.5 miles and mostly well gritted roads, just need to get out of my road which is on a slight incline. Thanks
I had exactly the same dilemma . AWD would certainly be much more controllable in snow but it's a very heavy price to pay especially as the ER put the car above £50kGDP so you lose the £3k grant and the Zero car tax incentives.

I decided for the sake of just a few days in the year I'd go down the route of Winter Tyres. RWD with winter tyres will out perform AWD all weather tyres on MOST road surfaces. Not the case with off road but I don't see many Mach-e crawling over rocks and proper off road.

Will you have winter tyres fitted each winter or keep them on all year? I don't know much about winter tyres, thanks

Keep in mind that if you go for the awd you get a lower range as you know.

That advertised range already reduces when you use heating, radio, heated seats etc

One post suggested 30% loss!

Oh, only in the winter for sure. When they get above about 15 deg C they get very sticky and you would shred them at summer temperatures (20+ at a guess). From memory, most people suggest average temperatures below 10 deg C.

In Germany and central Europe they are a legal requirement. To be 100% sure you'd need to check with the supplier. I will probably get a spare set if steel rims so it's a quick and cheap swap otherwise you need to pay to have then swapped over.

I was skeptical until I got a hire car in Poland and drove two wheel drive in snow. The UK is spoilt as we get warming from the seas around us but inland countries get more extremes. Winter tyres are also really excellent in the wet, by the way.

Wow you really know your stuff. I am lost at steel rims. So are they tyres that need fitting or something else, this seems like it could be the perfect answer to saving £10,000 and not losing range

Having confirmed my order on 11th I am still waiting for my dealer to receive the email from FordUK so that he can counter sign the order. Is there anyone else still waiting?
He says he has received his but not mine. Although I have confirmation of my order and my dealer says the system says I have confirmed my order I am still concerned that the process has stalled for some reason. With the 8th Jan deadline approaching and with the Christmas break upon us time is tight.

Spoke to Ford in Ipswich yesterday and they told me 18,000 miles a year is the most that Ford are willing to allow on a 4 year finance deal. Absolutely gutted. 3 year deal at £830 a month really isn't all that feasible for me. They seemed to suggest that the car wouldn't have enough value after 4 years on that sort of milage.

All this means that I'm holding fire for at least another 4 to 6 months. Hopefully when they start doing PCH and business deals I'll be able to get something sorted through my company

Me too. Since I generally keep cars longer than the pcp, I am considering going with the 18k and not caring about the extra miles. What's an extra 10k or so a year anyway ?.

You're lucky. I was only given the option of 24, 36 or 38.
