I probably should have used the word "cares" instead of "knows". We obviously all know that the charging station "knows" which car it's communicating with, but nobody knew if Tesla would actually check for Ford EV's or if they just connected to all CCS ports using the standard protocol. Tesla is obviously doing a very slow roll out in order to preserve their network stability, and don't want other cars jumping on in mass. Hopefully they have everything figured out by the time I get my adapter in August...
It isn't that the VIN is ignored or not. It is if the car can communicate with the Tesla servers and the Tesla servers can authorize payment.

The various third-party charger networks in the Blue Oval network can communicate with the Ford servers using standard backend protocols. So when you activate a charger in FordPass, the Ford servers can activate the charger you select via the third-party network. The Plug & Charge on Electrify America can read the VIN and knows to send it off to the Ford servers for payment authorization using the linked account.

Tesla support requires the same type of linkage between Tesla servers and Ford servers. The OBCC update likely has network certificates and added functionality to recognize and communicate with the Tesla servers. The Plug & Charge can read the VIN and the Tesla servers communicates with the Ford servers for payment authorization using the linked account.

So Tesla does care because it wants to get paid.

Stop calling Ford about this, they are overloaded. Check the site tomorrow, if that doesn’t work, try the next day, or the next. I don’t think a phone call is the way to go about this.

Well, gee how exciting. Assuming the orders are sequential, I'm order 4,701 and I can expect it to ship in August. 6 months to produce about 5 thousand widgets.

Yawn.

Think I'll just keep charging at home and at the charging stations I've used on trips; I usually go the same places.

August.

Seriously.

Unfortunately I don't think it will help - it's a generic URL (click.msg.ford.com) plus a massive query string. In my case it even redirects to ford.ca since I'm in Canada.
well the crazy url definitely resolves to something more normal as it was posted up thread and i used it successfully.

How is that any different? It's still an extension cord - a plug on two ends. It's just different plugs on each end.
The point would be that the extension and the adapter would all be one unit - no extra connection point. So the adapter with a built on cable would be no more dangerous than just the adapter.

Without liquid cooling, it would be like carrying a baseball bat.

Because the cables running from the station to the connector are liquid cooled to keep heat under control. Heat causes more resistance, and enough heat of course can cause damage/fires. Since the extension could have no cooling other than air cooling it would have to be much thicker...

That's just more email tracking. :) When you click your link, what's the link that shows up in the browser after it finishes loading? I'm guessing it'll be something more similar to mine.
Yep - same as previously posted, just the .ca domain vs. .com

I'm about 100 before you and my timeframe is May. If your order number is 4,701 you are in May. If you are in August, it is much higher.

Your order number and ship date do not make sense. I reserved mine aroumd 2 pm on Wednesday, and my number is 16490 and ship date is June.

Yep a little off. Of course if they ship on standard Ford time, I can understand considering it an August estimate.

I ordered yesterday morning as soon as I saw the email, 6725 here. I didn’t get a status at first, but I’m lucky enough to be in May. Which was better than I expected.

That makes sense - I wasn't aware of the liquid cooling aspect in the Tesla charger cable. Oh well...
