"What a cluster!"

How so?

Ford could have solved this problem by charging everyone $230 for the adapter and thereby limiting initial demand to only people who really needed it. The rest of us would buy a cheaper non Tesla adapter. Since GM and Rivian owners will need adapters, it's probable Ford allocation is not 100% of initial production.

So far, Ford has reserved 35616 x $230 = $8,191,680 worth of adapters
It's a cluster in my eyes because they didn't at least have a few thousand built and ready to ship to customers week on. Like when Apple releases some of their products, those are ready to ship on day 1; not all of their new releases but some.

And yes I don't see how Ford's allocation would solely be 100% of production when as you said other manufacturers need the adapters.

I doubt that you're going to see that. EA nor EvGo have done it so I doubt that Tesla would.
I remember jumping through some hoops with EvGo so that I could do a plug and charge. Had to set something up in their app, then go and plug my car in and charge for a bit. Took me twice to get it registered, shocking, I know.

Grabbed my phone, it's called EVgo autocharge+. Hmm, must've thought that they were a streaming service by adding a + to the end of the name ?

I know!
Hopefully, they are very conservative dates. I have a number in the 12000's and it says June for me. 4 months to build and ship 12000?
I was very early to order and I'm also June!

But it can’t be a cable. Has to be a solid connector, otherwise needs cooling and doesn’t work.
It could be a cable, just perhaps might not be very practical to be one. Resistance is proportional to the length of the conductor, so a short cable that is (let's say) 1/3rd the length of the supercharger cable, will have approximately 1/3rd the resistance (assuming same size conductors inside).

In addition, supercharger cables have to be designed for extended use, think lines at the supercharger and back-to-back-to-back charges. A short cable extension for individual use can be designed less robustly as it presumably will have plenty of time to cool down between occasional uses.

That said, I fully expect someone to half-a** a solution just to try to fill the perceived void and make a quick buck, so I'd be very skeptical of any cable extension product from an unknown company that doesn't seem to have been engineered robustly and hasn't undergone reputable independent testing.

It’s a solution looking for a problem. Tesla designed an adaptor that Ford provided to us for free. Both are aware of the need to take up two spots when we charge (they are not dumb). What problem are we trying to solve?
I think it is a problem that my car will take up two spaces when I am charging. And when I do it, I don't think the Tesla bros will care that it is Ford's fault and not mine. They will be upset with me.

And the EA station in Rock Springs WY still hasn't opened as the missing link. Been finished since last June, just no power.
Looks like the EA and FlyingJ both say coming soon. There is a Tesla Destination location at a hotel. It’s just over 500 miles from Rapid City so the end of my day.

The Flying J is just one of many announced. That could be way off. The EA station finally got a transformer, so *should* be any week now. But we know how that goes.

You would still have thousands (tens of thousands?) waiting. It would have made little difference.

Transformers have been a major issue nation wide for the last 3 years.

I guess will have to keep an eye on them for the next couple months.

I' m not sure if fordpass is different in canada but are you saying in fordpass, you couldn't get to "connected services" to create an blue oval network account?
No, I can get there but when I hit the reserve button I'm getting the error that there's a problem in Ford's end.

I just got the error now and I don't imagine there's a ton of load on the system at 8am on Sunday.
