@Mach-E VLOG

Have you guys tried to check the charging speed using the Public Charging application on Sync Screen?

I have seen in several occasions that when I am at a charging station that shows up there but I initiate the charge in other ways, I can still see the charging speed through it.

Hopefully someday @Ford Motor Company will finally give us the charging speed info in the dash screen. But for now, this seem to be a good alternative to get the information in the car itself.
It shows the max charging speed of the station not the actually charging speed.

Can you go into more detail about the "Failure of Plug & Charge" on both sides. EA failed Plug & Charge following a Tesla Charge and then it seemed (memory abiding) Tesla failed Plug & Charge on your last stop. Is this Ford & Tesla are aware of and working on??
Our contact at Ford investigated. Not sure what has changed but they asked us to try again today so we will. I'll update this thread with more info after that.

I've noticed that plug-n-charge negotiation is a little sketchy if there's any stress on the cable. On my first road trip I got in the habit of holding the connector in place until the charge starts for that reason, so I think the issue they saw was just that there was too much horizontal stress on the connector. Honestly I think that is at least a little responsible for issues with EA chargers.

If true, that is only half of the equation. EA Plug and Charge Failed after they visited a Tesla Charger. They even mentioned in the video, same thing happened to a friend of theirs the day before. So Tesla and "God Help Us" EA may have to figure this out.

I'm just envisioning a long road trip and mixing and matching chargers based on Location and Need. Don't want the extra headache of Plug & Cahrge not working (I know, 1st World Problems)!!

It's still early days. A Ford rep said they think the issue is resolved so we're going to test a SC and EA station today.

Watching the video now. Your first stop you said you were reluctant to leave the charger because the adapter is not locked in. There was a question about this a couple days ago. Basically it was that the manual says you cannot remove the CCS connection unless you have a key nearby when pressing the charge stop button. Can you explain this?

We were told by Ford last Thursday that it doesn't lock and we also sorta tried that later on in the video. I was able to stop and unlock the charge port while Liv was across the parking lot with my phone and fob. I now realize I should have tried some more extensive testing so we'll try that today.

Scraping the front splitter on the curb trying to pull up far enough could be an issue. I was worried about that when I was using some Magic Dock sites. Sometimes there are obstacles sticking up like that electrical junction box you had to stop for. If you don't have a front camera you should probably get out and look carefully for raised obstacles first before pulling all the in.
I'm thinking a couple 2x6s or even 4x6s with mitered ends for the front tires. ? (Actually this isn't entirely a joke.)

I just bought a 2023 Mach-E California Route 1 Edition. Planning on a road trip to Palm Springs from WA. What actual Tesla App are you using? It seems that the Tesla Chargers are already showing up on my Ford Pass App? Thinking that having more charging options will be helpful along our way.

The Tesla app. As far as I know there's only one.

It’s the same app that Tesla owners use. You just register yourself as a non-Tesla owner. The Tesla app and FordPass app will show the same locations-the ones that are compatible/available to you. You can use either app, or cross check them against each other if you want. You will need an adapter. You will need the Plug & Charge software update if you want to use Ford Plug & Charge.

How do you know when your car has the update in place?

Another question: You were identifying the Tesla Chargers buy their color or cable thickness. Can you elaborate on that and be more specific of what to look for? Thanks
https://electrek.co/2019/03/06/tesla-supercharger-v3-kw-capacity-efficiency/

Silver ring at the base of the handle and thicker cable on the V2s.

Don't assume all V3's are adapter capable yet though. They're not. No V2s can work with the adapter, and many V3s still cannot. Gotta check with FordPass or the Tesla app or website to see which V3 stations work.

https://www.tesla.com/findus

Supercharges Open to NACS means it can accept the adapter.
Superchargers Open to Others EVs means it has Magic Docks.
