Just wondering - once we get the NACS adapter, will we be able to use it on other cars that have opened up to Tesla SC…eg. Rivian…or will it be Mach E/Ford exclusive?

From my understanding it's up to Tesla to authorize the vehicle for being able to use the SuperChargers (certificate installation on the vehicle too).... not Tesla specifically authorizing the adapter itself.

If the vehicle is allowed and able to charge there, the adapter should not matter.

yes. the adapter is passive so as long as your vehicle is authorized by tesla the adapter would work.

The adapter doesn't have any 'smarts' inside of it. Meaning, it's not doing the authorization and it's just passing along the juice. So yes it can be used on any vehicle - assuming that it would be used on vehicles that are authorized to use the supercharger network.

Rivian just announced their vehicles have access to the supercharger network starting today, and their announcement video showed a vehicle charging with the exact same Tesla-built adapter we are getting from Ford.

Mach-E Vlog just posted a YT video answering this and a bunch of other questions. Bottom line on this one the answer is no it doesn’t work. In addition to having the adapter the car has to present a Tesla certificate to the charger to turn it on.

If the car is authorized on the Tesla network the adapter should work.

But in regard to the original question the answer is yes since they asked about vehicles officially opened to SC use.

NACS Adapter Question -- can we use it for non-Ford vehicles?

Where does it say anything about that?
