My tire sidewall was stabbed while parked and charging in a public garage. Tire had to be replaced.

I have had my Mach-E for three weeks now. Tonight we went to a fast casual restaurant and parked outside. When we returned to the car after eating someone had spilled or thrown dipping sauce on the right rear quarter panel of the car. It was too high up to have splashed there if someone accidentally dropped the sauce on the ground. And there was no parking allowed next to the car where the sauce was deposited so it was unikey that someone spilled it as they walked by. My wife is concerned that there are some anti-EV/anti-Mach-E folks around and worries about driving the car now. Has anyone else run into a similar situation of disdain or benign vandalism?

About an hour ago I stopped at HEB (Texas grocer) with two of my grand babies. We had the windows down and they were singing at the top of their lungs to some song called Believer.
We parked and I waited until the song was over and rolled up the windows and got out.
I had already hit the frunk release button on Sync so that I could put my backpack up when we went in to the store.
As I lifted the hood, I noticed a lady sitting in her Suburban was watching the rukus we were making. She then watched me drop the backpack into "the engine compartment" and close the hood.

It was all more than she could take. ?

She said out her window "yawll are having way more fun than everyone else. And did you just hide a backpack under the hood?"

That led to her getting out of her vehicle, me reopening the frunk, explaining these are 2 of my 9 grandchildren, and.......

There is plenty of anti-EV sentiment. I don't deny it. But lots of folks only know what those around them have said. Somebody's wife is going home today and telling her husband that she loved the EV she saw today and that it looked like FUN!

She ain't wrong.

Nobody should be screwing with anyone's property. But again, I've never been approached or felt threatened or concerned owning an ICE. The same is not true since I've owned an EV.

I'm concerned with the real threat. Trying to minimize it with the "both sides" type of argument isn't helpful.

Are you saying you’ve actually felt threatened (I’m assuming for your safety) by people attacking you because of the car you drive?

I think the worse I have experienced was a group of young women at a stoplight lean over and ask “hey, is that one of those Dad Bod cars?”

I’ve never once heard a story of someone here who was physically in danger or hurt because of being attacked though. But if it’s a real threat, please share.

I'm glad you haven't had a confrontation, but that doesn't mean they aren't going to happen for others as there are rabid anti EV people out there.

And I'm amazed at 4 & 5 they can know so many songs. Pretty sure this one comes from their 15 year old big sister and her friends? ??

hmm it depends... I don't see ICE cars vandalized because they are gas powered... I do see EV charging stations vandalized and lots of Teslas vandalized because they are electric... As I read mainstream car posts the vitriol from the anti EV types is increasing in my estimation.

To be fair, while the argument you had was about EVs, it sounds like it escalated based on the argument, not just because you were sitting in your car.

I wasn’t there, so just going based on what you said. But guessing still not an example of being in danger just because of the car you drove.

Yes, there are plenty of “anti-everything” people out there. I just think it’s a bit of an exaggeration to say that we are in any real danger just minding our own business driving our cars.

Your story is a reminder not to get into political debates with angry ignorant strangers.***

FWIW, I have had people come up to me with those same arguments many times. I respond with “I just like to because it’s fast.” Never escalates.
