The recent sales growth thanks to heavy discount of MME shows that there is appetite for EV.... at a certain price point. So I am glad Ford is retooling and revamping strategies. However it can't wait too long before invasion of Chinese EVs. One can look at Europe to see the market penetration rate. BYD looks to be a strong contender against Tesla for EV crown.

This is assuming US doesn't impose more sanctions and tariffs to protect domestic brands. However that could lead to innovation atrophy.

The Mach-E is the Edge replacement. Originally, way back when the car we know as the Mach-E was being designed as a compliance vehicle, it was going to be an Edge. They changed the body, and released it as the Mach-E.
The edge is much bigger than a Mach-E.

I'm in for a PHEV Bronco. Gonna put those plastic ramps, a roof tent, some 37's, gas cans full of water, on board air compressor, bull bars front and rear, shit ton of off road LED lights and roll HARD into the mall to get my Potterybarn Down Comforter curbside. Can't wait! I hear it's coming soon.
You forgot, "And never actually plug it in"

Personally I believe Ford needs to get a sedan back into their line-up. Start with a hybrid and then release full EV. I just hope there is some major update to the Mach in 2026 when my Option contract expires. I would prefer to get something new at that point but not if there is not a significant upgrade.
sedans at least in my neck of the woods just seem to be dead in the water, overwhelmingly it's suvs, crossovers and pickups. Is there a large market for sedans anymore (like a taurus or similar).

They stopped making sedans because people stopped buying them. CUVs offer more room, and better ground clearance.

Unless we start drilling more in America, I'm not exactly thrilled to be buying gas from evil dictators.
I’m pretty sure the US exports more oil than they bring in since we started fracking. We may still bring in higher quality oil than we export, except for the Alaskan oil.

Because that is all there is. Obviously others, like Tesla, do well. I still believe it is an EPA thing so they can sell vehicles with smaller MPG (but I could be mistaken.)

The EPA rules have impact, but it still really comes down to what consumers want. Remember that the way CAFE works is by restricting consumer choice (a manufacturer can only sell so many larger, lower-MPG vehicles without exceeding their allowed fleet average). Without CAFE, even more larger, lower-MPG vehicles would be made because that's what most US buyers want. CAFE prevents as many people from buying what they want.

The SUV/truck limit is more lax than the car limit, but they're still both limits. Limits that restrict what automakers can offer, thus limiting consumer choice.

Plenty of other manufacturers sell sedans. Just not Ford. I still believe it is a marketing decision but I could be, and probably am, wrong.

Marketing decision to focus on the segment that most consumers want, yes.

There's always some demand for sedans, of course. Not every automaker has to sell every possible type of vehicle. But rest assumed that if consumer demand for sedans was much higher than it is now in the markets Ford is a major player in, they'd be making them.

On many models, the line is getting blurry between sedans, hatchbacks, and crossovers now anyway. Some of them are getting pretty close to sedans again, just with a hatch instead of a separated trunk. Even the Mach-E is not far removed from a sedan.

I remember a handful of decades ago when automakers started experimenting with rear seat tunnels (or entire fold-down rear seats) in sedans, so people could carry long stuff like skis. Consumers started liking the concept of the trunk area being accessible from the cabin. Then it grew from there. Separated trunks went out of demand in favor of rear cargo areas that were part of the cabin. To me that's really the defing characteristic of a sedan - a trunk instead of a cargo area.
