How do you incorporate X-Plan after purchasing/leasing online through Ford Build and Buy (ford.com/finder)?

Although I have not signed the paperwork yet, I recently completed an online "reservation" to lease a 2023 GTPE through a specific dealer for a specific price. The car now shows up in my Ford account when I log in, and I have to schedule a pick-up date to get the car and sign the paperwork.

Using rough numbers, MSRP was $59,000 (including options and destination charges) ... there was a $3,000 "Dealer Adjustment" (dealer discount) ... Doc Fee was $80 ... and there was the $8,500 lease incentive from Ford itself. This was/is the price, regardless of whether or not I have access to X-Plan pricing ... when making the reservation online, there didn't seem to be a place to enter an X-Plan Pin.

So my question is, at this point, after having made the online reservation, how and when do I bring X-Plan into the picture? Do I contact Ford Credit and let them know I am eligible for it? Do I contact the dealer?

I have seen the $2,750 number thrown around in recent days as the discount that a lot of people have been getting on their MME through X-Plan. I have seen mention of X-Plan pricing on this particular dealer's website, and it looks like they participate in it, but if they have already given me a $3,000 dealer adjustment discount, will they still give me an X-Plan discount on top of that? I have read that it is Ford themselves that give the X-Plan discount, rather than the dealer, so I would think the dealer would be fine with giving the discount?

Talk to your dealer.

They handle the X plan and the price is fixed from Ford.

Your $3,000 dealer discount may be the better deal though.

So you think I'm only going to get one or the other, and not both?

Yes.

You need to read the X-Plan terms. There is NO NEGOTIATING price. You get the X-Plan price, less any Ford or Ford Financial Incentives. You pay a max paperwork fee of $100.

There is no place to enter a PIN because only the dealer takes that, at time of purchase, to put into the system.

That was my understanding as well, but I have recently read reports from some buyers who claim to have received both X-Plan pricing and a dealer adjustment/discount. Not sure if those stories are true, or if they are mixing up "dealer discount" with incentives that come from Ford itself.

It's simply not allowed. Many people don't have a clue what the numbers are, or where they come from.

Read leasehackr.com forums. Folks there say it is possible to get a dealer discount AND have them apply the $2750 X-Plan incentive without taking the X-Plan pricing. I haven't had success with this approach and my experience is that dealers will pair X-Plan pricing with the $2750 incentive. Be prepared - once you mention X-Plan, they will likely be excited to give you that so they don't have to provide their own (greater) discount without X-Plan.

I used the X-Plan back in 2013. Got a great deal on a brand-new Focus. Since then, I have attempted to use X-Plan several times, as recently as couple months ago on a 2023 Mach E. Each time, the dealer said that the discounts he could offer me were better than the X-Plan pricing. Every time I was told, "you can't do both". Heard that from multiple, different dealers, in IL, AZ, and recently in FL. So based only on my own experience, I would be very surprised if you found any dealers that would do both. I am not saying it won't happen, but it is not likely.

I have purchased a few vehicles with X-Plan in the last 3 years. My understanding is there is no negotiation, the discounted MSRP is set based on invoice, and then you still get an incentive.

That being said I recently bought a Mach-E and got a dealer discount and X-plan incentive. I am not positive, but the reason I believe I got both was a mistake because the Mach-E was dealer traded and did not get a new window sticker change from Ford, so they manually entered the price as their discounted price instead of the automatically entered MSRP for X-plan, which would have been about 5k more.

I might be wrong, but that's the only thing I could tell that was different than the other one they showed me which had less add-ons (didn't have color cost or nite pony) and came out about 3k more but had a new window sticker.

Sounds like it may be possible that the dealer is just matching the X-Plan price, then giving further discounts without actually formally inputting it as an X-Plan sale, as a potential way of reconciling what everyone is saying. Sort of would make sense given where the market is right now with 2023s.

I recently went through the Build and Buy process and was able to enter my Xplan pin. After you select the vehicle, you would click on Edit Payment Details. All the way at the bottom under the down payment and trade info, there is a box to enter the pin. For the record, the dealership I chose did not know how to use the new Build and Buy process at the time, and repeatedly tried reverting back to the old come in and test drive, we'll talk numbers, etc. So I ended up not completing it that way and switched to a different dealer.

Some dealers will claim to sell vehicles ā€œbelow invoiceā€. People may mistake invoice pricing for X-Plan pricing. The two are NOT the same. Here are the benefits of X-Plan:
- a MODEST discount off of MSRP
- a small, FIXED amount of ā€œjunk feesā€ that dealers can charge
- a ā€œno negotiatingā€ purchase experience.

Is it possible to do better than X-Plan? Of course. Trust me, at 6:00 PM on the last day of the month, the dealer is going to be a lot more eager to get ride of that last stripped down ā€˜23 Escape SE in an unpopular color that’s been sitting on the lot for 3 months, attracting nothing but bird droppings (note about this example: dealers aren’t obligated to let you use X-Plan on vehicles on the lot, but I have never had issues with it.)

If I were doing an X plan deal today, I would consider a 2024 GT.
