I was messing around with blue cruise on my wife's Mach E mainly to get lane centering on city streets but it disengages with the brake. My Ioniq 5 lane centering is separate from ACC so i can use it all the time on city streets. Is there any way to do the same for Mach E? And i mean lane centering not lane keeping that bounces the car side to side.

Yes, it can, though with caveats. Lane centering is performed by the camera in front of the mirror cluster. The camera can generally see lines on the road well, but have trouble with curbs. So if the lane you're in has a curb on one side or the other, the lane centering may disengage. It also has trouble with narrow lanes. And of course remember that the car does not stop at stop signs or traffic signals. So if the car in front of you blows the yellow light, remember that you need to apply the brakes manually.

Probably a good idea to review the BlueCruise section in the owners manual too...

No. Lane centering on the Mach-E is coupled to cruise control. With cruise control off or paused, it reverts to lane keeping (either assist or alert or both per your preference).

You can enable cruise control on city or neighborhood streets, but it's generally not a safe idea.

Yes i get that. But bluecruise disengages every time you brake on city streets. So i guess no way to have lane centering without bc

Yes, BC disengages when you brake. That's what the adaptive cruise control is for since it greatly reduces the need to brake. If you find that the ACC is braking coming to abrupt stops (or not braking until the car is closer to the car in front than you'd like), change your follow distance setting to at least two, though three is probably better.

You can easily reengage BC with the center button in the cruise control cluster on the left side of the steering wheel.

Driving in city traffic is not the primary use case for BC. But it can be done and I find at times it is quite useful. But there are absolutely limitations...

There is no “steering only” assist in the MachE if that’s what your asking. It’s coupled with ACC + BC on mapped highways.

Regarding your query, I'd suggest checking the Mach E's user manual or reaching out to the manufacturer's customer support. They might have some insights or updates on how to customize the lane centering feature to your preference. Happy cruising!.

Not true. As @macchiaz-o points out, lane keeping is available with assist (steering) or alert or both. I have mine on all the time. Keep in mind it engages around 40mph and the assist isn't very strong compared to other cars (my 2017 Audi A4 was very insistent). That's not dependent on ACC or BC.

I well yeah I wouldn’t consider that full lane centering. That’s just lane keeping. Lane centering is the full blue circle with hands on or hands free.

For reference the Korean EVs offer full lane centering without radar being active. We just have lane keeping in that case.

I use cruise control almost all of the time (freeways, rural roads and city streets), and have for several years. My RAV4 was a bit kludgy on city roads, but pedestrian/collision ADAS was only available if cruise control was on. The MME does a nice job on city streets going up and down, keeping me close the speed limit. MME is a little quicker to drop steering assist in the city, but far better on the freeway. With the RAV it was right thumb to adjust speed or return to cruise control after braking. Now have had to relearn and use left thumb. RAV4 and MME both allow driver intervention without switching off cruise control, braking does disable. My rationale is to maintain high level of situational awareness, car helps with speed and lane keeping.

I think many of the replies here missed the point. Or maybe the question wasn't worded well enough. I think he's asking if lane centering can be used without engaging the cruise control (or BC). My Santa Fe has a button to turn that on or off, separate from the cruise control. I do find that a better implementation than the Mach-E that only does lane centering when cruise control is engaged. It would be great if Ford would allow lane centering without cruise control.

It's a very useful feature. I didn't know i need it until i got the Ioniq 5. I won't get another car without it.

Set Cruise Control to its lowest, 19mph for a MME, and then just drive 1 Pedal. Tap the brake when you want to go slower. Left thumb to reset CC. I mostly drive with my thumb, use accelerator and brake as needed, but not all that much. Even with the kludgy RAV4 it was easy.

I had a 'first' with the MME yesterday on I-5. I was in Bluecruise, traffic was a little odd ahead of me so eyes were glued on the road. I didn't see 'hands free' switch off on the display, so car did two sharp very short brakes along with the klaxton sound.

Ya'll getting way too black and white on the terminology OP is using and just confusing/conflating the issue based on what they are asking.

OP is asking if Ford can turn on the same sort of lane keeping functionality that their Hyundai has in city drive and the answer is yes. Their lane functionality is like our lane keep which helps keep you in the lanes.

When you enable cruise, lane keep automatically comes on and if bluecruise is enabled, lane centering takes over and you're hands free but you don't have to be in cruise to enable the lane keep.

You can just hit the button on the steering wheel with the lanes icon and that will turn on lane keep the same way the Hyundai does.
