Got a question if anybody that else that has a Ford level two charger permanently mounted or maybe a different brand charger? I forgot something in the car and I went back out there and unlocked it with the touchpad and everything like it supposed to unlocked but unlocking it and shutting the door and walking away I swear I heard the charger on the wall click, does it communicate like that even though you’re not charging?

It depends more on the HV battery charge level than anything. I have heard my non-Ford EVSE’s contactors cycle when opening my door. Most of the time I do not. ?‍♂?

I’ve been through two Ford mobile chargers that overheat when it’s used at night and it’s not hot outside at all. I only use it for a few months a year when I travel to Florida. I even had a fan blowing on it. I ended up getting a different mobile charger that I’ve had no issues at all with and it’s much better built for $229. See my post if interested.

So keep the mobile charger in the car for when you travel and install your permanent charger.

I mean, this was just. I was replacing those clips underneath the hood and just walking away from the car. I wasn’t even around the charging port door.

Question about the Grizzl-e Classic: I decided to buy a 3rd-party charger after reading about reliability problems with the Ford Mobile Charger (it's worked fine for me thus far, with only two re-boots necessary in 15 months). I also wanted to get 40A charging and the Ford mobile is 32A...

The Grizzl-e arrived today and, while it charged the MachE, there was no charging session shown on the FordPass App, nor any log of the charge in the Charge Logs section! No ability to ask it to charge to 100% when the normal charge limit is 90%.

I thought that any charger that speaks the J1772 charging protocol with the car would be fine, but apparently not.

Q: Do any of the 3rd-party chargers play nice with FordPass and show the charging status/info?
Q: Does the Grizzl-e Smart model work better with FordPass?

I chose the Classic because I assumed that FordPass would show all the charging data.... I guess not!

Thanks,
J

It should, probably just a glitch.

I found when used as a level 2 charger my ford mobile charger works fine ….i remove power to it via the GCFI breaker as I read it may last longer …and keep a mobile charger for level 1 mobile needs

Anyone have experience with the Autel or Emporia chargers? Good or bad.

I’m thinking about one of these even though I really like the ChargePoint and wallbox but cannot justify the price.

Best $400 chargers with smart apps?

Please let me know.

we have had our MME since last November. We have a rather unique situation at least to us ?
We are retired and live in an apartment complex because I don’t want to do any maintenance at all except in my personal garden??

We have talked to the apartment complex about installing a level two charger; cost prohibitive (@ 2K), but they are going to install some DCFCs outside of the gated community.

Still inconvenient

so, we live on the ground floor and what I did was snake a extension cord from a 110 outlet on our patio to a covered container where we keep our Ford portable charger.

when I need to charge at the apartment. I just plug it in. It’s level one, but hey, it’s overnight.?

we are providing childcare for our daughter and son-in-law and they have a house about 2 miles away from our apartment. We have installed and Autel 50A charger on the outside of their house, so when we go over in the mornings, we usually top off there.

I never leave home without a portable charger, and it was becoming a PITA to unplug wrap it up and put the charger in the frunk. I did some research, and wound up buying the EVgoer portable charger from EVgo. So far so good, but I would certainly like other comments on whether the EVgo is the best portable charger you can have for your MME.
EVgo doesn't make a portable charger... Wrong company. https://egevgoer.com/

You are a little confused. No charger communicates with FordPass, except the Ford Connected Charge Station or Charge Station Pro. And that is just to set them.

FordPass shows charging car does regardless of charger used. Or it doesn't.

I understand that the chargers don’t talk to the FordPass app. All the charging info and logging is done by the car and hence my concern that I didn’t see any record of the charge when I tried the Grizzl-e.

I’m a little confused by your last sentences. I think you’re saying the charging session should show in FordPass for any charger. But the “Or it doesn’t “ part implies it’s not reliable?

FordPass is notorious for bad/missing data.

If FordPass didn't show the L2 charge in charging history, go to Sync4 instead and look for it there in charging. You should see it in Longitude/Latitude and you can edit its name (Home)

Then Sync4 let's you designate it as saved with a target SOC value.

Make sure you have the car set to share data, as well. This is very critical! (Connectivity I think?)

Give FordPass a few minutes and it should populate that same saved location, along with the name you assigned. And at that point you can adjust charging hours and target SOC from the app.

Note that it's common for an L2 charging session to be delayed in FordPass charging history logs. Sometimes a few seconds/minutes. Sometimes several minutes. I'm not sure what the variable is reflecting. My cellular strength is good for both my phone and the car. And the car is close enough that PAAK stays connected when I'm in the RV.

While you are charging, if you open FordPass you SHOULD see the current session showing charging speed (truncated, no decimal point), total energy received, etc. Whether that session is saved or not after it is completed is the unreliable part, and you lose some of the data. That may change with the next version of FordPass, we'll see.
