Sad about losing my centered speedo

Welp, it just happened, although I had run all the available FDRS updates months ago, and had the best of both worlds, enhanced BC and the centered speedometer when I disengaged lane-centering and adaptive cruise, and I had a few OTAs after that, and kept my centered speedo. Got a notification of OTA for 6.8 today (which doesn’t contain anything for the IPC) decided to run it, and now no centered speedometer. I am very sad.

Yep, they tried pushing 6.8 to my car yesterday, but I have automatic updates turned off. Seems I am now doomed to being notified a software update is available every time I start the car, just like so many rental cars that are never updated.

For me it is not about the centering of the speedometer, but the loss of efficiency animations. Lousy.

And for all the haters about driving assistance being turned off, I do not miss them one bit. Honestly, I do not trust them all that much and find I generally respond before the car does. I often wonder if they are even working in the forward position.

Side note: I took a trip on unmapped highways recently. The non-handsfree cruise control made the trip very enjoyable. Took me back to early days of ownership where “the game” was to trick the torque sensor to drive semi-autonomously. This time however I just kept at least one hand securely on the wheel and never experienced the hand nanny. Most pleasant road trip in a long time. I am happy to keep my time capsule car locked to the current software.

Which meter are you talking about?

Are you talking about the orange lines?
I don’t think that’s efficiency indicator. You get those with lane centering on, but at the top.

I too am deeply bothered by fords decision to do this. In fact, I changed the mind of 2 friends who wanted a Mustang. They purchased other brands.

One can only wonder w hy ford did this.

Oh, and I DEEPLY regret buying a Mach e - because of the entire user interface issue. This is the worst car buying decision I’ve made in 50 years.

Oh, I also sold all my shares of ford stock - I have no confidence in fords management.

Wow, I don’t have quite the same take, but yeah, the two options: lose the centered speedo, or get nagged about software updates all the time seems like a Sophie’s Choice. Ford better get me the two things this car needs via OTA and soon, Lane Change assist (all my modules are up to date for that) and less throttling of power. I know people are saying “oh, the improved performance is because of the new in house motor on the 24s, nope, the BorgWarner motors are being neutered on the 21 GTPE by Ford, and they made statements that they were going to reduce the neutering via OTA. Put up or shut up time, Ford.

It is truly iconic to have a centered speedometer. Most of the time when I travel, and am forced to rent a cheap ICE vehicle, the rental has a centered speedo. So for me at least, center speedo = trash rental car.

Perhaps this is the iconography that Ford is forcing us away from.

I always have lane keeping on, and BlueCruise ready for my long highway drives, so nothing changed in my car.
