I have a 2021 FE Mach E with about 36500 miles on it. The last few months I've been having issues with the car. Getting the powertrain malfunction/reduced power and the high voltage battery warning lights in the car.

Called my local dealership to set up an appt to have the car checked out, as I didn't want to end up getting stranded again in the middle of nowhere. I dropped off my car last Wednesday and got a call the following day from the service tech. He told me that they had found the cause to all the warning lights. It turns out the battery on the car has 2 bad cells and that it was uncommon in the MachE. He said they had to contact ford engineers to figure out what they needed to do. I was told it was going to be a while before I get my car back, which sucks cause they won't provide a loaner or rental in the meantime.

Has anyone here had this issue with the MachE?? Service advisor said that this was a very uncommon issue and that ford would want to investigate what caused this and look into any other batteries from the same manufacturer. I'm not sure how much of this is true.

There are companies that can actually fix the defective cells and a battery

he's still under the warranty for the battery. I'll be curious to see if they replace the whole battery or just the bad cells.

Individual cells cannot be replaced, but modules, a group of cells, can be replaced. If the bad cells are in a single module, then just that module would need to be replaced. I think there are 10 modules, but that may only be for the ER battery.

Also I believe the FE's are part of the module harvesting. There was a run of cells that arn't performing great and Ford wants them back.

I asked the service advisor about how it would be fixed, they really couldn't tell me. They're waiting on what ford engineers say. He did tell me the car has 10 cells (I'm assuming he meant modules?) and it was number 5 and 8 (if I remember correctly)that were bad.

I would *demand* a whole new battery pack&HVBJB under warranty since it is a 'unit' and cannot be repaired/refurbished at the Dealership, and let @Ford take their time studying and refurbishing the faulty pack.

I would like to take a closer look into your battery concerns. Can you please send over a message with your VIN and estimated mileage so I can start looking into this on my end?

There have been a couple of posts regarding bad modules or modules gone bad. In the cases I read about the dealer got a Field Service Engineer for Ford and they replaced the questionable module(s). ??

My dealer told me this too when my HBVJB failed. They said I had 2 bad cells. But after they replaced my HBVJB and I didn’t see any battery replacement on the worksheet they said “the battery is fine” and wouldn’t elaborate on why they saw bad cell codes. They told me though that they under no circumstances would replace the entire battery because it would be just too expensive .

Was that the first time your HBVJB failed? Mine was replaced last year and my 12V battery was replaced a few months ago.

What was weird was that every time my car got those errors, and I would stop to fast charge, the car would limit the charge no more than 10kw. I followed another thread here about unplugging and waiting a few minutes to reset and that did work once and the codes went away. But then happened a few more times so decided to take it in.

Looking at teardown videos, it seems okay to just replace modules and not the whole battery.

And I am pretty sure there are a few threads where members have just had modules replaced. I can’t se3 why they would replace the whole battery if only one or two modules were bad.
