Feel free to tell people you drive a “Mustang,” without the need to clarify “electric” or add the words “Mach E” to the end.
If I drive a Porsche, I have to qualify it as being a 911, 917, 718, Taycan, Panamera, Macan, Cayenne, etc. No telling what people will assume which model, or which trim level, it is.

If someone tells me they have a Mustang, I instantly ask them what year/generation/powerplant, or if it is a convertible, because there's been so much variation over the years.

Sheeesh, this going way deeper than it needs to.

Of course some of us bought the car regardless of badging, simply because it’s a very good car. The issue’s not even whether *we* think it’s “a Mustang”, it’s the confusion that’s being sent by the manufacturers of the vehicle themselves. Years after being promoted as a “Mustang”, “the next evolution” etc. etc.

Not that our life depends on it, but imagine if we purchased a LP record player online that was advertised as such, only to check the listing later and find that its “not a real LP record player”, but just a record player that happens to play LP records.

Or a collectors edition of some cultural item, only to be told later on its “not really a collectors edition” of said item.

Or a recliner, only to be told it’s “not a real recliner”, just a chair that happens to have a pull lever that says “recliner”.

Or, a certain brand advertising driver’s assistance features as “full self driving” for $X, but then have a disclaimer saying it’s “not real full self driving”.

Exactly what are you selling to us, and exactly what are we paying (or did pay) you for again?

I’m personally disappointed that Farley has backtracked from the “Mustang Mach-e” is a Mustang to “we will never make an electric Mustang”, but I accept it. He has stated that their future EV(s?) will be small and inexpensive. I get it. This is a perfectly reasonable business Decision. Ford tried, really hard, and the Mustang Mach E is a great vehicle. It’s also on the automotive equivalent of hospice. They’re keeping the car comfortable until the end. I think MY 26 will be the swan song.

Here’s my real complaint. Let’s pretend ford launched the vehicle with entirely different branding - say Futura. Nary a pony in sight. Ford is still abandoning the original vision for the vehicle. Something technologically advanced that’s fun to drive. Now they’ve decided they’re going to make electric Fiestas ? Ford doesn’t do “cheap”. The Chinese will kill them as soon as they get into the US market (and they will).

If your name was John Smith and your brother just went by "Smith", you would both be Smiths. If I called out and said "Smith", John's brother would assume that you are asking him a question but technically they could both answer and both be correct in their assumption. They are both Smiths just like the MME and Coupe are both Mustangs.

I get that point that a Mustang and Mustang Mach E are two different cars but they are in the same family similar to the "Smiths". They are brothers and not cousins. They have the same Dad (Ford Motor Company). Semantics................ ;)

Cousins don't always share the same name but biological brothers (unless they are adopted) (see my birth certificate reference), always have the same last name.

A Boss Mustang is typically called "Boss". Is it too a cousin?
Honestly I don't think there is any question that the Mustang Mach E is in the Mustang family but to simply call it a Mustang is going against the very trademark name that Ford gave it and applied for. That name is "Mustang Mach E' and it is electric.

https://trademarks.justia.com/883/62/mustang-mach-88362589.html

Now, Ford also has another trademark name for the ICE version in the Mustang family and that is "Mustang".

https://trademarks.justia.com/735/33/mustang-73533611.html

So, if you want to refer to your Mustang Mach E as a Mustang obviously you can but it really is not a "Mustang", it is a "Mustang Mach E". I don't find that confusing at all.

Oh, and lastly you are confused about what a vehicle birth certificate is or isn't. It is not what a state puts on a title as most states will abbreviate or leave out some details of a vehicle make and model for actual character limits and spacing on the title certificate.

The real birth certificate for a vehicle is a Manufacturers Statement of Origin (MSO)or Manufacturers Certificate of Origin (MSO).

I'm ok with that, so long as they keep my Mustang comfortable until I'm done with it.

People have tried to make this point multiple times like it’s a mic drop.

Having something in your name doesn’t make you that thing.

Green beans aren’t beans
White chocolate isn’t chocolate
Strawberries aren’t berries

The Mach E is part of the “Mustang family,” but it’s more of a cousin. It isn’t a “Mustang.”

Farley didn’t “suggest” it. He straight up stated it.

Yes, it’s debatable. Yes it’s semantics.

Feel free to tell people you drive a “Mustang,” without the need to clarify “electric” or add the words “Mach E” to the end.

But you will confuse people if you do.
You know what confuses me, why do some owners of Mustang Mach E's want to simply call them Mustangs? To leave out the Mach E part of the name is leaving out the very pedigree of the vehicle they should be proud of, why in the heck omit that? ?

Do people around you (Friends and family) sometime omit your last name when they are having a conversation with you?

I am guessing they simply call you by your first name.

Still confused? ;)

Yes, they do, because they know I am not my cousin.

Still confused? ?
I am not my cousin? I think you meant their cousin.

I was/am only confused on your grammar.

I am good.

Not the same. Porsche is a brand. 911 is a model.

Mustang is a model

Mustang Mach E is a separate model.

GT, S, turbo S are trim lines.

These are very clear distinctions.

That’s…. not a Mustang. If this is what Farley means then ok, but if he’s talking about the Mustang Mach E, that makes absolutely no sense considering how the thing was promoted up until like last year or so when the next ICE gen was unveiled. Anyone remember the fancy “Anything you can do, I can do electric” commercial, with all those ICE Mustangs lined up??? And that 1400hp model - now that’s what they should have released as the GTPE!

Love the car btw. Falcon or even Thunderbird would have been cool though if they’re so concerned about upsetting the purists out there - 3 1/2 years after introduction mind you!
That post was a response to someone talking about an electric Explorer
