PL6100 power supply issue survey.

I have heard a few people say they use this and have had issues. Documentation says you must have a 20 amp power outlet and I am wondering if using a 15 amp outlet creates an issue in the same way for some electronics you have to use alkaline AA batteries as the lower volt rechargeables have issues.

I am using a 20 amp outlet with the weird shaped plug, and no issues so far.
5-20 outlet on a 20A circuit. PL6100 failed less than half an hour into its first use. I know several people who use theirs on a standard 5-15 outlet without any issue. Mine was just a dud. ?‍♂?

Consensus is that PL6100 will work on 15amp circuit. Sounds good to me. Just curious, where did you guys get a replacement for the funky shaped plug that comes with the unit power cord? I just changed out the outlet to match, but being able to use any outlet would be helpful.

I hope you also rewired back to the circuit breaker. If not, switch the outlet back since a 20A outlet on a 15A circuit violates code. ??

You can get a 5-15P to 5-20R adapter here. ??

I tried programming with a 35A amateur radio power supply. During IPMA the analog meter pegged at 40A (car was actually pulling more) and a little while later the internal fuse blew.

Later I was able to redo the IPMA programming with this $50 12V power supply from Amazon. Voltage showed by FDRS dipped as low as 11.7 near the end, but I got it done. The power supply was getting quite toasty so I aimed a house fan at it the last hour. Not perfect, but more affordable than the PL6100.

I order this (TekPower TP50SW 50 Amp 13.8V Analog DC Power Supply) last year It works great, and you can see how many amps it's actually drawing at any time. Not as inexpensive as yours, but much cheaper than the PL6100.

This is the one I bought as well. It works great for anything FDRS will throw at it.
However, I ended up cutting jumper cables and crimping ring ends onto them in order to handle the ~40A current typically requested. I just couldn’t find good enough pre made ones on Amazon.

Wish I had known about this one back in March of '22 when I was just getting started on doing BC 1.0.

Yeah, we don’t need 100A. The most I have seen is 43-44A. Someone reported having seen 46A IIRC. A 50A supply is perfect for the MME. Oh, well. Those of us with a PL6100 have expensive overkill power supplies. ??

Updated all the modules on my 22 GTPE, and got BC 1.4 fully enabled. The only thing not present is the icons and animations for Predictive Speed Assist, Lane Change Assist, and Lane Biasing.

These As-Built configs in the APIM and IPMA respectively will turn it on. You may not have the animations for them, but they do work completely.

7D0-09-05 xxxx xx4x xx Lane Biasing
7D0-09-05 xxxx xxxx 2x Predictive Speed Assist
7D0-10-02 xxxx xxxx 1x ALC

706-01-02 x5xx xxxx xx Lane Biasing and ALC
706-02-01 xx6B xxxx xx DPAC Low Power Mode
706-02-02 xxxx x8xx xx DPAC Offset Overlay
706-02-02 xxxx xxxx x2 IACC Type (Predictive Speed Assist)

Now, I just need to figure out why the APIM is not taking updates. It appears to be stuck on a slightly older software version, and there is no option to set a custom profile photo.

Ford needs to go ahead and release the config changes.

I have had 1.4 turned on, including the icons and animations, or at least I think they are all on and working, and those are NOT the changes I made.

So either the settings vary by year and trim level, or there are multiple combinations of settings that work or at least appear to work.

But they haven't even pushed out the IPMA and PSCM and CMR to everybody yet.....we who use FDRS are lucky to be able to do that. Because we have the gear!

We need more folks with the gear!
