Tesla, is it Tesla? The only supplier?

Guys, I bet it’s Tesla fault.

Automakers usually have contract language with their suppliers that … so long as the supplier does what they are _supposed_ to do to remedy an issue (e.g. they uphold their end of the deal) the manufacturer is not allowed to throw the supplier under the bus.

In other words, they are probably contractually not allowed to rat-out the guilty party. This is normal.

It might be Tesla … but there’s a good chance that Tesla has a supplier making these … and Ford may be sourcing them directly that supplier.

The “constraint” is likely that they can only make so many per day … and in addition to Ford, Rivian also wants them … and GM and ... a whole lot of others.

Sometimes the thing that makes most financial sense is to let the item be constrained. This is because you can predict there should be a HUGE SURGE to handle a temporary demand that will drop off once the backlog is satisfied. When vehicle manufacturers switch over the charging port the demand will almost completely dry up (except for needing to replace lost/broken adapters). Why spend money to create excess manufacturing capacity when you expect the demand to shrink rather than grow?

You can bet if it's Tesla, then there's a huge disclaimer in the fine print somewhere. :poop:

Are you suggesting that the company that fired its entire charging team is in fact having issues meeting its obligations?

No no no, you’re wrong, it’s not Ford having a problem with their supplier Tesla, it’s Tesla has a problem with their supplier.

Hint: it’s a very specific contractor with four letters.
