2 July 2024 (Total Elapsed time: 40 hours)

Got a call from dealership this morning, asking for my second key. They are still trying everything except checking the 12Volt. I asked my wife to deliver the second key to them, and she told me that they said they needed it to talk to "Tech Support" for troubleshooting purposes. I am very glad that at least they are doing something, as opposed to my Mach-E just sitting there waiting. Ford Pass still indicates the Mach-E is parked where I was locked out, instead of at the dealership.

I'll continue to update as I get info... Thanks!
3 July 2024 (Total Elapsed time: 64 hours)

Ford called my wife on the evening of the 2nd, telling us we could pick up the Mac-E at 0930 today (3 Jul). So, I went down and in fact did pick it up (yay!). The problem was indeed the 12-volt, it never completely went flat, but was low enough to make things not work correctly. They ended up having to remove the "valve and bumper cover" to locate the missing Frunk bypass negative cable. It was located, and then re-routed to the correct place. They then used i to open the Frunk, and replaced the 12volt. They also performed "C/S Recall 23B50" while they had it. I also asked about damage caused by the tow driver, and they said they didn't see anything visible. It seems to be driving ok.

My concern with my dealership not working on it very quickly, ended up being unnecessary. What I don't know is if my contacting Drew here, who created the case with Ford EV for me, had anything to do with it? Regardless, I think that 64 hours of time (including a Sunday) is reasonable. Not to mention that they gave me a rental, without any fuss. Overall, the experience went fairly smoothly.

Moral to the story, perhaps you should check to see if your frunk jump cables are routed correctly? Also, that it is possible for your 12-volt to fail suddenly, and only bad enough to prevent you from entering the vehicle. Thanks everyone!

Heck, you should feel lucky. I took mine in voluntarily because it wasn’t getting updates. It’s sat there for seven days without being looked at because I was in line behind everybody else hybrids mostly no other electric mustangs only one technician in the area for electric and hybrid cars here. And what they did to me was they gave me a full size F150 for 10 days without charging me but the next seven days they had my vehicle I had to pay $45 a day for the truck. I called Ford , Ford’s gonna reimburse me for that. They said Ford dealer is supposed to not charge you nothing and get reimbursed by Ford. The dealer gets reimbursed that is so you got away lucky

Yes, I feel fortunate. My situation could have been far worse. I also learned some tricks in this forum, namely to contact Ford in this forum to talk to my dealership.

So long story short because those cables were hidden in the front bumper that was the major problem. I sure think there could’ve been something that could’ve been done to get to that 12 V.

Too bad they couldn’t have designed those cables to be right there where you open the door to plug in your car to charge. How convenient would that be?

Had the same problem last week on 23 gt 3500 miles on it. Wife came out from the store with no way to open door. Tried every method possible app, door code, rear hatch, windows down, both key fobs and nothing. Had it towed to dealer where it is sitting waiting its turn to get looked at.

Tried to jump to open the frunk with no success, my ground wire was pretty hidden but was able to fish it out eventually. My ground came in from the left side and the power came in from the right.

The lights and lock and panic alarm were functioning with the key fob. I posted on reddit and several other folks have had the same issues last week.

Could be dead or low 12 volt system or something else? Hopefully s simple fix. My home is that the 12 volt was low and not dead which was preventing things from working correctly.

This is EXACTLY what happened to me. The 12Volt was too low to open doors, but not low enough to allow for the emergency frunk opening. Once it has sat long enough, they should be able to open the frunk, to get to the battery. Is it still updating Ford Pass? Also contact @Ford Motor Company here in the form (DM), so they can get the Ford EV team talking to your dealership. Good luck, and let us know how it goes?

In the ford pass app it shows the car is running and at a wrong location from prior to the issues. So I guess it is not updating the app.

That is what mine did, but said "parked" as that was the state it was in, when it got too low. It didn't update again until the same day they replaced the 12volt. Good luck!

Update, Dealer had not looked at my car yet so went to the dealer after hours this eventing and was able to get the frunk to pop and the door open with the help of my jump starter box. The 12v battery was dead this time, no headlight/ tailing activation and no locking from the fob. So that made a difference in getting the frunk to pop.

There were a couple of items locked inside that were needed so that worked out. Will call them in the morning to see what they say.

My car was a special order that never got picked up and must have sat around for almost a year on the dealer lot so I wonder if the 12v battery is shot from that. Was supprised at how small the battery actually was, defiantly room for a larger one in there.

Just FYI the door handle has a manual release. You have to pull the level back very far. A small pull triggers the door opening motor, which obviously wouldn't work if your 12V was nearly dead. A full pull triggers a manual release. The locksmith person should have been able to open you door. Then you could have popped the frunk and taken care of this yourself.

Real question though, do other Ford cars have the same frequency of 12V batteries dying like this randomly? I've always had Ford and never had an issue, but I didn't follow online forums for a Focus or Escape. Seems Mach-E has high chance for 12V to drain and fuck you. Luckily I have not had any issues with my MachEs yet in two years.

Can you elaborate on the door handle manual release? Do you mean on the inside? My mach e does not have any door handles.

Yes on the inside. The lever you pull to open the door and get out of the car.
