A few weeks ago, when I first got my shiny A2Z adapter, I did some testing, got the slides and whatever understood. Plug and Charge worked great.
However, I wanted to test the Tesla app initiation and its (potentially) lower cost. Seemed the best way was to disable plug and charge in the app (now I know you don't need to: claim the charger in the tesla app, then plug in. it's not necessary to disable P&S. That's what testing is for
).
Since then, I have been unable to re-enable Plug and Charge in the app. I press the little slider to enable, I get a please wait for a second, and then it slides back. No error message. Energy -> Advanced -> Access and Permissions. No way to enable from the Car or Web, I think.
This was on Ford Pass 5.0.3, but continues on the 5.2 update I received yesterday. There was a side conversation in a thread about downgrading the app to 5.0.1 or something, and the feature works, by someone else who noticed the same problem. I am on Android 14, July security update.
I was hoping just to get an update that fixes it (because I don't use public charging that much so could be patient) but have a mini road trip this weekend. I went to Ford's website about connected services, my account is in good standing, chat is a supported feature but no chat obvious. So I called them.
The experience was.... surreal. They answered the phone. They seem knowledgeable. Now I know Ford isn't an internet style company. Internet companies work at scale that its impossible to have actual humans on the actual phone that actually know something. I rapidly got bounced to the right group. Who then tried to bounce me back to the first group but immediately got that I was just there. I now have case numbers and people's names and direct phone numbers. I'm like.... stunned. This is customer support.
Since we were on hold waiting for a technical answer, I asked my question about the best way to get a reliable PAAK download. Usually if I reinstall the ford app, I have to re-download the PAAK key (expected), but it doesn't work and I have to clear the car's PAAK, and my partner laughs at me for having a lame car. The answer appears to be: turn off wifi on you phone (this can be hard, I have wifi set to auto-on at home, driving away from home might be better). With your car off, go into your phone and remove all paired bluetooth devices that look like a machE. Fire up the car. Go into its bluetooth settings and remove the phone in question (this seems suspect to me, but it's what she said). The car needs internet, so be somewhere with (I think?) att. And your phone needs internet so be somewhere that's good on its network. After you've done all of that, bring up the Ford Pass app and attempt to download your PAAK. She was clear and specific, which was amazing. I don't know if it works, but it smells right, it seems like some kind of race condition. Note: I am on a non-supported PAAK phone, so I expect some uncertainty, was just looking for tips--- got tips! Again, support!
Of course, I was hoping for "yeah we know about it, push for next version is delayed due to some other bugs, be patient", or "yeah, something got wedged about your account, fixed, try again". Resolution is better than sympathy, although sympathy is really pleasant.
Reference: thread a bit ago saying the same thing, and sideload 5.0.1 to fix it.
so:
1) anyone else can't disable and enable plug and share? Care to share versions? We know ford monitors this channel
2) Anyone successfully disable and enable recently?
3) psa: don't disable plug and share if you count on it and like it
[ I had attached a video of the button springing back but it seems uploads don't support video. ]
