A few weeks ago, when I first got my shiny A2Z adapter, I did some testing, got the slides and whatever understood. Plug and Charge worked great.

However, I wanted to test the Tesla app initiation and its (potentially) lower cost. Seemed the best way was to disable plug and charge in the app (now I know you don't need to: claim the charger in the tesla app, then plug in. it's not necessary to disable P&S. That's what testing is for  ).

Since then, I have been unable to re-enable Plug and Charge in the app. I press the little slider to enable, I get a please wait for a second, and then it slides back. No error message. Energy -> Advanced -> Access and Permissions. No way to enable from the Car or Web, I think.

This was on Ford Pass 5.0.3, but continues on the 5.2 update I received yesterday. There was a side conversation in a thread about downgrading the app to 5.0.1 or something, and the feature works, by someone else who noticed the same problem. I am on Android 14, July security update.

I was hoping just to get an update that fixes it (because I don't use public charging that much so could be patient) but have a mini road trip this weekend. I went to Ford's website about connected services, my account is in good standing, chat is a supported feature but no chat obvious. So I called them.

The experience was.... surreal. They answered the phone. They seem knowledgeable. Now I know Ford isn't an internet style company. Internet companies work at scale that its impossible to have actual humans on the actual phone that actually know something. I rapidly got bounced to the right group. Who then tried to bounce me back to the first group but immediately got that I was just there. I now have case numbers and people's names and direct phone numbers. I'm like.... stunned. This is customer support.

Since we were on hold waiting for a technical answer, I asked my question about the best way to get a reliable PAAK download. Usually if I reinstall the ford app, I have to re-download the PAAK key (expected), but it doesn't work and I have to clear the car's PAAK, and my partner laughs at me for having a lame car. The answer appears to be: turn off wifi on you phone (this can be hard, I have wifi set to auto-on at home, driving away from home might be better). With your car off, go into your phone and remove all paired bluetooth devices that look like a machE. Fire up the car. Go into its bluetooth settings and remove the phone in question (this seems suspect to me, but it's what she said). The car needs internet, so be somewhere with (I think?) att. And your phone needs internet so be somewhere that's good on its network. After you've done all of that, bring up the Ford Pass app and attempt to download your PAAK. She was clear and specific, which was amazing. I don't know if it works, but it smells right, it seems like some kind of race condition. Note: I am on a non-supported PAAK phone, so I expect some uncertainty, was just looking for tips--- got tips! Again, support!

Of course, I was hoping for "yeah we know about it, push for next version is delayed due to some other bugs, be patient", or "yeah, something got wedged about your account, fixed, try again". Resolution is better than sympathy, although sympathy is really pleasant.

Reference: thread a bit ago saying the same thing, and sideload 5.0.1 to fix it.

so:

1) anyone else can't disable and enable plug and share? Care to share versions? We know ford monitors this channel

2) Anyone successfully disable and enable recently?

3) psa: don't disable plug and share if you count on it and like it :p

[ I had attached a video of the button springing back but it seems uploads don't support video. ]

Plug & Charge is tucked w/in a couple layers that I think are not necessarily intuitive. You might think it should be an option w/in Charging. Wrong! It is an option w/in Account -> Connected Serviced -> Blue Oval Charge Network where you'll find the option to add Plug & Charge. You will need a credit card of course.

I had to use this a couple months ago to correct a dispute between Ford and Discover Card. I navigated to change the existing credit card, then add a different credit card.

Note: After you enable Plug & charge, the Blue Oval Charge Network button should be green and display "Active". If it already is green and Active, you may need to change credit card or correct another account feature. Hopefully, this won't happen to you.

I don't think that's quite right? Are you talking about the website?

On the website, under my connected services login, I see no *additional* tic box to enable Plug And Charge.

The website states that enabling BOCN enables P&C. But..... it appears it *enables* but there's still the tic you need in the advanced settings in the app. Which I'm sure is enabled by default. My advice is to not touch that advanced setting.

My Blue Oval Charge network is green and enabled, with a valid card, verified by customer support. That was my first stop in customer service, make sure Blue Oval Charge is in good standing and enabled. It is. Then they forwarded me to the app group. Because a slider shouldn't be timing out and springing back with no error message. "Your Blue Oval Charge service is not enabled, please visit our website", for example :p .

Even with that enabled and verified, the slider in the App (on android) can be disabled, but not enabled again. That's what's not working. Slide the slider to enable, it slides back.

I have also verified that P&C is actually not working by plugging into a tesla charger. It doesn't initiate. Some app (forget if it was Ford or Tesla, probably Ford) threw me an "unknown error". Which means even though according to the website I have Blue Oval connected service, P&C is not working. On that charger, moments later, with the adapter still connected, I initiated perfectly through the Tesla app, which is why I'm quite sure it wasn't the charger or adapter.

Bummer. Not talking about the website, just the cell phone Ford Pass App. Only other advice is to investigate with your Ford Dealer. My dealer was extremely helpful when receiving and setting up the MME day one.

All the best.

Ya this is totally broken on Android Ford Pass. The slider literally does nothing. For me it shows as P&C is off, but it is actually on. This version is so incredibly broken. There are many sliders and and buttons that do nothing. Come on Ford, fix this mess!

The nice people on the phone did say something like "the team's working on a lot of issues, so unsure when you'll get a response on this one".

I'm lucky cause I enabled P&C before the switch to 5.x. Hope they fix it soon!

Ah, in the cell phone app P&C is under energy -> advanced -> access & permissions.

The main "BlueOval Charge" (which as you say must also be correctly configured) is Account -> Other services -> connected services , looks like they reuse the same pages as on the website. There is no extra button under there, on my 5.0.3 and 5.2 apps.

Amazing that you had a helpful dealer, congrats! Mine is a dumpster fire. I think we have two actually helpful EV-savvy dealers in the bay area (maybe more!) but mine isn't one of them and the well regarded ones are a little far away for my lazy self. I'll stick with ford support for this one, let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the encouragement to try one more time at a charger. I do rather wonder if it's really on. I was right at the transition time coming out of my free charging (which shouldn't have been on the tesla network anyway).

Well P&C had to be turned on for your free kWh hours charging to work. So its probably on.

I had the same P&C problem recently. The problem was that BOC Network was turned off somehow. After I re-enabled that, I was able to move the P&C slider to “on” and it stayed on and now works for both EA and Tesla. Maybe, you can turn off BOC Network and re-enable it?

I think sometimes we all get a little to dependent on an app to do things for us. Yes, they are nice to have, and convenient. But in this case, everything you need to enable and use Plug and Charge, can be done on Ford's Web Site, and in your Mach-E. You don't need a functional app to enable P&C.

It *was* on, I *was* using free kwh, but I ran through them all - now I don't have free kwh - sorry I was unclear. No signal there :-(

Yes, that is my point. You have Plug & Charge on. Once you run out of your free charging it just starts charging your credit card instead (as long as you have a credit card set in Ford Pass.
