Navigation expiration?

I am not the most tech savvy person. I currently have a flip phone and love it (indestructible & battery charge lasts two weeks). I bought a new 2024 Mach E two months ago. I have no use for Blue Cruise or lane centering. Half my driving is on rural roads that have no lines painted, where they obviously won't work. I tried lane centering a few times on marked highways and found it annoying; it had me crossing the center line or almost off the edge on roads with curves before jerking back.

I cannot find an answer to what will happen to navigation when the three years' trial is up. Will it cease to work? Will it continue to work but no updates? Will the map continue to work? I always figure out the route before starting, but the map is nice to know exactly where to turn.

The car has built-in navigation, and connected navigation. Connected navigation, with current charging station locations, weather, traffic, construction, new maps, etc. Right now, a renewal is $80 for a year. Without it, your maps stay the way they are, and all those other features don't work.

the connected nav is the only subscription I'm going to keep up when the term expires

It’s probably the one I won’t keep. I have never used it. I appreciate the red light camera and school zone warnings. I wish Apple Maps did that when not actively navigating.

LOL I have a bare bones pre-pay phone so don't use any of the nav apps on the phone so having built in nav is pretty helpful for me and $80 is cheaper than what I'd have to pay to get a real cellphone

We've had the same carrier since 2000. Haven't gotten a free phone in a very long time. No desire to switch.

I think Waze gives you red light camera info plus accidents and police activity. PlugShare has stations.

You don’t have to switch. Depending on which carrier it is you probably qualify for a new phone. You will likely have to sign a 2 year contract. But since you’re not planning on leaving shouldn’t be a problem.

I was with AT&T since the mid 90s. Got free phones almost every couple of years. Switched to T-Mobile 3 years ago because of free Canada roaming. I just got the entire family iPhone 14 Pros for free from them.

Tracfone here. Since I rarely use it except for "emergencies" or when bike riding, it works fine for me. $75 for 15 months with limited minutes. The phone itself was 1/2 price at $9.99.
