It’s weird to me that people pay for tire rotations - adding up to at least $150 - to maybe extend the life of their tires 5-10,000 miles. I mean, just run the tires down and replace. I think some people are just bored.

The dealers are right. There’s nothing really to do. It’s an EV. Just drive it.
Seeing as my tires only lasted 11k miles and the new ones were $1600…… I would gladly pay to extend the life!!

Ok. I’ll bite. Why did your tires only last 11,000 miles. Why did you pay $1,600 to replace them. And how would tire rotation have meaningfully extended their life under such (assumedly) extreme circumstances?

I got 50k out of me original Michelins, never rotated them, took them down to the nub, and replaced them with a $700 set of Hankook ion evos, with replacement warranty, from Wal-Mart.

I was scarred at an early age by a dealer who did the oil change and then, without any action on my part, performed the equivalent of several warranty fixes that I knew nothing about. That experience drives my service routine now. Dealers do service during warranty period, giving them a chance to do whatever else needs done. Will they? Don't know, but I'm willing to give them the chance.

You can download the CarFax app, add your car to your ’garage’, and enter your own maintenance events.
I have never understood why anyone uses CarFax. Ford's site works just fine.

I only drive in the city, have a GTPE and the life on the stock tires suck.
Here is a pic before I replaced them-

I replaced them with Pilot Sport 4S because they’re great tires with much better traction. They aren’t cheap but are some of the best performance street tires you can buy.

Here are some videos of the traction difference before and after-

That said, I know tire rotation won’t get me an extra 5-10k miles out of them. But would love if did. I did rotate at 6k and that probably extended my life by 25% before I had to buy new tires (the fronts wore much more quickly than the rears for me with all city driving). Did an alignment as well but it wasn’t out of whack.

But 25% extra life is $400 to me. The tire rotation and even alignment is a good deal in my situation.

If you’re all highway? Very different and tires last much longer and wear more evenly.

So if you drive more in the city like me, much more of a benefit rotating your tires.

I'm at 12k miles on my stock tires and 1 year into ownership and they still look brand new. I'm 90% city driving and don't consider myself a conservative driver.

I have to ask if you've ever had your alignment done. If you have, I'm glad I got an RWD Premium since I'm guessing all that power and AWD is what's eating up your tires.

This line was in the post you quoted- “Did an alignment as well but it wasn’t out of whack.”

Yes the extra power and AWD make a difference. Also the GTPE summer tires wear much more quickly.

I should also specify “city” even more. I have a 1 mile commute to work and come home for lunch every day. So those 4 miles involve lots of tight turns out of my driveway and in and out of the parking lot.

Others here have gotten even less than the 11k miles I did on the GTPE tires.

My last car (Chevy SS sedan) didn’t do much better driving the same route. 15k miles on the stock tires.

I have a 2022 Mach E RWD extended and it's time for my 30k service. I called two dealers in the area and it sounds like Ford is telling them to charge $200-250 for a Tire rotation, cabin air filter (I replaced myself already), fluid top-off and general inspection (including battery).

Given I spent $25 for the 10k and 20k service this is ridiculous! Am I the only one that the dealers are now trying to gouge here? 10x the price for essentially the same service? The one dealer said Ford just released the updated codes for EV service and what to charge.

Also, I asked what if I just did a Tire rotation and they said $50 (what the heck!!!)

What are you guys paying? Any tips?
That may not be out of line. Try hiring someone to cut your grass. But I will tell you that you do not have to do that service. I never rotate tires as I think it is a total waste, especially for awd cars. OK, you may save $10 worth of tread by rotating but even if you do it yourself, it is not worth it. I wonder if you have to program the pressure sensors when you rotate tires> Charles

Yeah, that's a no. I know how to replace a cabin air filter and can check fluids and I swap out my tires every 6 months. I'm not ever taking my car to the dealer unless there is a recall.

I haven’t done a recommended service based on time or mileage since 1982. I had a Mercedes and the cost for a 15000 was exorbitant. The owner of the dealership was one of my clients. He told me not to bother with it. With an ICE most things are done for free with an oil change. With the MME rotate tires and whatever when needed. My service rep told me that they hardly ever see electrics come in. The revenue loss is bothering the dealerships.

If you can do it yourself, then log it in the app as self service. There's nothing wrong with rotating tires, refilling the wipers fluid and changing a cabin filter. Now, next time is your break fluid flush+fill. I would pay to have it done at a Ford dealer.

This just in! Emailed the dealer Quick Pane manager and he called me directly the next day. He confirmed they quoted an incorrect price and apologized. Actual price should be $50 for rotation and 30k service. Much better!!! Car gets dropped off tomorrow.

Meh, I don’t spend money on tire rotations. I rotated my Summer tires every 3500 miles in my driveway. That alone at least doubled their usable life. ??

Great idea! How do you log it in the app?
