Lots of new options are coming out... we just need to see enough population of EVs to make these type of blankets on every fire apparatus verses being a special call for Hazmat.

Car fire on a highway... cool...throw a blanket on, move on.... next call!

Folks, I don’t have a smoke detector in my garage. This video encourages me to install one connected to my monitored security system now. Thank you Matstar for sharing the video.
First thing I did. Get a heat detector, not a smoke detector. Mine is tied into my security system. I also have a video camera so if the alarm goes off at night, I can check the garage without opening the garage door.

If this doesn't burn through the fire blanket, then I think they have the material science figured out.
I think they stated it was a 2500F fire?

Interesting video.

Summary- it doesn’t put the fire out but it contains it so it’ll be easier to put out and less likely to spread.

My wife works for a fire training organization. They are constantly adjusting training materials as this is a fluid situation. With what she has seen we do not park the ME in the garage at all and it charges away from the house.

Is it that likely that the car will catch on fire? No. Still want to minimize the danger.

No Mach-E has started on fire from charging so far. Parking outside is excessively paranoid IMO, and I'm aware about the fire stuff.

It's only necessary to park outside if there is a warning from the manufacturer to do so because of a battery defect. Which the owner of the Jaguar did not do.

Interesting video on how fire services are adapting to fight electric vehicle fires.

I am wondering what toxins the fire chief is talking about coming from Li batteries when the vehicle was burning, and what 'hazardous materials' may leach from batteries if doused w water. Lithium itself is not toxic

I suspect the hazardous smoke is burning rubber and plastic in the vehicle (not the Li battery).

My EVSE, therefore Mach-E, is located outdoors.
But that's because my RV doesn't have a garage. ?

But if my Mach-E caught fire and then burned the RV to the ground too? The Mach-E is worth far more to me. Twice the MSRP too.

So after reading this thread I contacted our local fire dept. They told me they have three fire blankets strategically placed at specific stations, are planning to buy more and they train using them. I was thinking this would be a great gofundme to help local fire depts buy these, I imagine they're quite expensive.

I was looking at something for this new ICE Mustang convertible I bought and I saw this advertised for some reason. I was wondering if anybody had one.? $1400
