Anyone know of a way to turn the screens off completely while still having the audio on? Going to drive in and last time we kinda put something against it so it wasn't so bright but that's no really a great solution.

Nope. Dark mode at least makes it less bright. But there's no way to easily turn on calm mode.

Even with calm screen and dark mode, it's still so bright in the cabin with both screens on. Plus the lights just behind the sunglass holder that shine down. Our solution was a hoodie over the main screen, a bunch of layers of paper towel a hat over the instrument cluster, and a mask pulled across both visors to cover the over head lights. Not very glamorous but it did the trick.

I found that if you push in on the volume knob, and turn the volume down at the same time, the calm screen comes on. Tap the screen to go back to normal.
Yep -- this was added to the 2021 models in a September 2021 over the air update. Calm screen is great!

I think the pushing volume knob in and holding is enough, turning the volume down isn't necessary.
Lowering the volume helps calm my head. Unless it's the Whatever Happened to the Pizza at McDonald's? podcast -- then I'll want to turn it up.

Push the volume knob in, hear a beep, release, calm screen comes on…. Bill csg

Wow, last post here from 2022 and since then no one has asked how to turn the screen off? Or why that feature doesn't exist?
Am I crazy for thinking the screen is way too bright, even in Calm Screen mode?
How is it possible that there's not a simple "screen off" button at the top?
Baffled.

Because nothing has changed since this thread started in 2021. No reason to ask again an already answered question.

It is too bright in normal daytime mode. I changed the mode to always dark and I’m happy with it.

Well, I'd argue that it's still way too bright in dark mode, brightness -4, and instrument panel turned way down. Driving across a dark landscape with no lights outside, it still feels lit up like a Christmas tree, and for the driver it's much harder to see into the darkness outside than it needs to be, it's unsafe.
It should be possible to turn off the screen, and the ambiance lighting, and to tune down the instrument panel (+overhead lights) to 0. Seems like that would cost nothing to add.

Ot can certainly feel bright in dark mode when there are no other formas of light outside. It would be a welcome change, but so would it have been to include a fob like the lightning one withbtye 2024 Mach-e so there would be a frunk button.

I keep dark mode on all the time. If I turn the display brightness down using the controls by my left knee, and then activate calm screen by holding in the volume dial, I find it very unobtrusive and not distracting. Mind you, within 5 minutes I'm probably going to want to look at the map or pick a different song.
