It was released earlier this year that Google maps in Android Auto would be able to display arrival SOC for EV's when navigating using android auto and google maps. It was said that the Mach-E will be the first to support this.

My question is, does this require an OTA update for the car to support it? If so, does anyone have the functionality already? Which OTA gave you the functionality? Did you have to enable anything in the car or in google maps/Android Auto settings in order to use the feature?

I'd love to be able to use the Arrival SOC feature in google maps. it works great in the built in navigation and I love it, it's so helpful. I also love that it can automatically recommend charging stops based on arrival SOC and plotted course.

Apple Maps supports this already for MachEs.

for iOS.... I wonder if this is an apple play issue or Ford issue to expand it to other apps like Google Maps

Yes, I'm a tad jealous the carplay users already had this feature. I'm really anxious to use it in Android Auto.....

I thought Android was always ahead of iOS. We have had this feature for a long time now. It also does without CarPlay, based on the last know charge level.
See, that's perfect! Dang....I had to be on team android.....late to the arrive SOC party........

Sadly the Apple version also likes to tell me it’s impossible to make is somewhere without stopping to charge that I can make with 20% remaining.

It’ll update and correct itself as you drive, but the original estimation seems way more pessimistic than the built in navigation.

It will require an OTA. Google said they were ready when they announced it. Supposedly Ford is supposed to release support this year, but who knows.

Thanks for clarifying. Okay this makes sense.

So Android Auto users will be waiting on an OTA from Ford. I hope it actually IS this year haha.

hmmm that's interesting. I wonder what the google version of this will be like. It could be equally conservative... we'll see.

Yes I agree, the built in navigation is pretty close to bang on most times. I notice the built in is always on the conservative side as well but it's typically only off by maybe 2-4% on average, which is pretty darn amazing if you ask me.

My CP allows me to go down to 15% to my destination without charging. SOC when I arrive to my destination is always within 1-3% of what if first estimated at the beginning of the trip.

I have probably been butting up against it thinking I would arrive under 15% but really the +/- range ends up being around 20%.

Really if it would just let us select a % we are comfortable with like ABRP does that would fix the issue. But I will say it is accurate over the course of the drive, just can be annoying when it tries to add stops I don’t need.

I have found the initial Apple estimate is usually within 1-2% of true arrival percentage. I don't use the built in navigation so I can't really compare it but can compare it to ABRP which with the default settings is extremely pessimistic and inaccurate for my driving style. I have tried playing around with the efficiency options in ABRP but can't get it as accurate as Apple maps.

I would expect the Android Auto version to be much like Apple Maps since it will be getting a real time battery SOC throughout a trip.

Have to use an OBDII dongle and then it can get data the same way.

Though 3.80 mi/kWH seems to be my accurate number for summer trips at least.
