I just took possession of a Mach E Select and everything was going well until I drove a Grooved Highway like the one attached. Apparently it is to drain the water but... Mach E goes out of control at any speed. It's almost not safe, has anyone experienced this? I turned everything on and off thinking it was adaptive driving or lane keeping radar, but nothing worked.

I had to check if you were in Houston when I saw this. I had the same problem when I bought both of my MME's. When the tires wear a little the problem will go away. You definitely have to pay more attention until then though.

What do you mean by “it went out of control”? Like the grooves are grabbing the tires?

That's not specific to the Mach-E. It's the interaction of the groves on the tire tread and the groves in the pavement. It's normal for the interaction to feel a bit wobbly especially if your tires have groves that run parallel to the groves in the pavement.

When I bought my Blazer it was a serious handful on grooved roads. It behaved like the ball joints, tie rods, and steering box were worn so far out that they all should have been making clanking noises. When I corrected inflation pressures, it became docile and predictable. ?‍♂?

It is much worse with real AWD. My other car (Audi) moves back and forth like there's a strong crosswind.

Blame NASA.

I remember when they started to groove highways. The comparison was to the grooves on runways. Thing is, the grooves on runways are perpendicular to the direction of travel, not parallel. If highways were grooved in the same manner, they would move water better while not causing directional issues for the drivers. I assume we cut them the way we do as it is much easier (read: cheaper) to cut parallel grooves.

Interesting that they measured grooving's effect on reducing highway accidents during wet weather only. Makes me wonder whether accidents increased during dry weather. They probably didn't even ask. Better to simply declare victory and move on.

I noticed a bit more with my CC2s than I did the OEM tires. It's annoying, and sometimes loud depending on the grooving and exact type of mix used, but my MME is more tolerable.

The lines do make potholes easier to see, which is helpful in the Chicago area :)

Try riding a motorcycle on a grooved pavement and see what happens.

Interesting, as I live in HTX. That was one of the first things I noticed when I got on 290, the road about ripped the car out of my hands. I am thinking that the wider tire setup I go with in the future will help.

Are you going to collect the VIN for the road surface too?
