Another reason I don't use 1PD. From Green Car Reports:
https://www.greencarreports.com/new...t-kinds-of-fender-benders-claims-data-reveals

EVs tend to be newer, meaning they're more likely to have the latest front-collision avoidance tech. The company also cited the "different braking dynamics" of EVs in one-pedal mode, which could cause more rapid deceleration that drivers in following cars aren't prepared for.

One thing I was wondering about, do the brake lights go on when you use 1 pedal and take foot off the pedal? I assume they must but have no way to check. ?

Yes, they go on. And yes, they stay on when you come to a stop.

A reason I don't like following Teslas. Brake lights come on all the time. One day one pulled out on front of me and once they got up to speed the brake lights came on. Wife thought they were brake checking me. I knew they were just letting off the accelerator, but I still had my foot on the brake just in case.

I don't use 1 pedal drive. Two pedal feels more natural.

These kind of articles are always sus to me though.

1-pd and I don’t let anyone tailgate me. Drive defensively and change lanes to stay safe. I routinely pull over to let some asshole go.

I keep using the screen wash especially if a pristine new sporty car behind, they usually move back as they don't want dried screen wash on the paintwork. Works especially well with open topped sports cars. ;) ( This is only if there is slower traffic in the left lane and I can't pull over due to the amount of traffic nose to tail). Bear in mind this is UK driving and we drive on the left.

If people are following too closely for the conditions what do they expect? There could be an emergency braking situation for the car in front. (Debris on the road, the car in front of them doing an emergency stop etc). Always drive so there's a "space bubble" around you so you always have somewhere to go in an emergency.

I know it's UK based but some good driving tips that could be translated to elsewhere in the world on this YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/@ashley_neal/videos

He's a driving instructor in the UK.

After nearly 40 years of driving there are still tips to be picked up to make driving less stressful. I'm not aiming this post at anyone in particular it's a "Just be careful out there " message. :) Drive safely peeps.

Eeeeeerrrrrrrmmmmmmm, no!

If in full and proper control of your car there should be no difference to the risk in an ICE, a pedal car or an EV.

I have read that autonomous emergency braking could “cause”, and when I say cause it doesn’t cause it because it cannot cause it because it’s always the driver that “causes” it, following vehicles are more likely to crash into rear of AEBraking car.

The fact is if you’re such a shite river that your AEB kicks in - it’s you (or me?) who heightens this risk.

And don’t I know it having failed to pay attention a few times when AEB kicks in - However, I give myself a good talking to about that piece of bad driving when it happens unless wifey’s in car when it’s her job to casually (not so) to point it out to me.

My opinion is (are you ready tinternet trolls?) we should know our cars and learn how to control them properly, it’s never the car, always the loose nut behind the steering wheel!!

Beep beep ☸?

As somebody who’s been a HGV Class 1 & full bus driving licence holder for 25 & 30 years respectively, trained in road craft by Police driving instructors and went through the advanced driving course and been a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists for 30 years and I think you’re bang-on Mr Spacey.

Look in your side view mirror when driving at night. The reflection of the brake lights will show on signs, ect. It doesn't take much regen braking for them to go on

That's one of my biggest pet peeves... how damn close so many drivers tend to follow, especially on highways in the city.

And then there's the aholes always cutting in front of us that do leave a safe distance (and I'm only talking like 2 on the ACC).

It's not just 1PD, most drive modes apply some degree of regen slowing when lifting up on the accelerator pedal.

It's one of the things that allows EVs to slow down quicker. I remember when taking driver's ed in high school (51 years ago) that one of the tools they brought in was a reaction time test that measured the time it took us to move from acc pedal to brake pedal. A good time was about 0.5 seconds. In an EV with regen on, we're already slowing the car the split second we start to lift up. That's a half second head start we have that ICE doesn't. Means we're slowing down sooner.
