I bought my 2021 Premium AWD about a month ago and my SYNC is currently at version 21139_PRODUCT / Revision 263. I found a page online stating that this update is from June 2021, which means that my car hasn’t been updated in 3,5 years!

When I try to update the car it just says that it fully updated. I can’t even activate automatic updates. I’m taking the car to an authorized Ford mechanic on January 2nd but I’d like to know if there’s any useful information in FDRS.

VIN: WF0TK3SU6MMA23368

Thanks!

Ouch. Looks like you have one of those Job 1 cars that get stuck on old software unable to update. The good news is, I see you have Ford extended warranty plan on this car. The tricky part is going to be to get your dealer to realize your car has a problem and how to fix it.

He was out yesterday morning and said it was done. Thanks for the info and I'll call the dealership. I just spoke with the dealership and told them that FDRS wasn't showing anyone working on my car and the modules weren't updated. They said since it was a mobile service, it will take time for it to be reported to Ford/FDRS. This didn't make sense, but they said check back in a week. I guess I'll just have to wait and ask someone to run my Vin again after one or two weeks. Thanks again for all your information and expertise.
Updates in FDRS are immediate. They have to be because of the ‘realtime’ requirements of being able to determine what revision of software you have now and knowing when that update is completed so that if there are dependencies the system will ‘unlock’ newer follow-on updates in your list.
They’re buying time. No updates were performed and either they are investigating internally or they plan on covering this whole thing up.
Again, there is zero delay between FDRS software availability listings or session history and actual time.

Do they know you have the session history?

2021 MME AWD Premium
Hi there, beautiful nice people with FDRS accounts!

I bought a pre-owned 2021 MME as my fist electric experience, and I love it a lot. It still feels, smells and drives like new. But I realized the software is an older one, and despite having subscribed for the connected serviced or being connected to my home Wi-Fi, it never shows the availability of an update or does any updating (it's all activated). No update error. No notification in the app.

Since I got 90 days warranty for my certified vehicle, I would claim the missing ability to receive OTA updates as a defect - if I would have proof that it is not updating.

I would be very happy if someone could look up for me which the latest version is that I should expect to be shown on my screen. Right now it is Power-Up 4.2.1 and software version 22228_PRODUCT, Revision: 539

VIN: 3FMTK3SS6MMA34143

Thanks a lot in advance.

Well the proof in this case is the almost two-year-old revision of Sync software your car appears to be running. Add to that all the other updates in the list below, many of which have come as OTAs (like the door modules for example).

You haven't got any OTA history (it only goes back 60 days).

Here's the list of available software din FDRS (take note of the "Additional Updates" section below):
Ford Mustang Mach-E Post here if you have an active FDRS account and are willing to look up info for others 3FMTK3SS6MMA34143-19-Dec-24

You're on SYNC4 v4.0.22228....in order to move forward somebody with FDRS and a USB stick is going to have to connect to your car and download the APIM update, and then when that one is done they will then have to update the GWM (gateway), and then when that one is done they will have to update the TCU (onboard telematics modem). And that may not be all....more updates could appear after that because of how far behind this car is.

Here's a link to see the very latest Ford Authorized revision of Sync for your car to use as a reference when discussing with the service advisor.

Some people may not see this as a problem, but the issue of being so far behind is that you're not even being shown the latest updates (even in FDRS) because they haven't been 'revealed' due to software dependencies. Gotta get this updated, before that becomes available, sort of thing.

That was my understanding that it was real time. I'm waiting to see what they tell me when I come back in a week. I'm trying to be tactful because I might need their services in the future.

Bring a dozen donuts in, and a smile.
That'll give some cover, at least, for when you call them out.

Be ready though NOT to use words like Internet or Forum. An FDRS printout is a better gotcha. It's real, and it puts you on their level regarding.
If anyone asks, just point out that the license is $50 for 48 hours. You never said that it was your license. So nothing dishonest.

So that FDRS session history page I posted? The service advisor can see the exact same page on his PTS screen when he puts in your VIN. That data is shared between FDRS and the PTS system that the service advisor uses.

He doesn't even have to explain where he got that info. Especially in light of the fact that when the SA pulls up his VIN and checks the 18th of Dec, that same session history from FDRS will show up on his screen.

You guys make valid points, but I have work until next week. I don't want to do it over the phone and printed out all the information. I want to see what they say when I show it in person.

Dang, that figures. Thank you for checking!

I talked to Ford about this issue a couple of days after buying the car (bought it from a used car dealer, not from Ford) and they weren’t sure if it’s covered by the extended warranty. Any advice on what I can tell the mechanic?

They’re gonna fix the brake recall (24B60 according to customer service) at the same time and since that’s a software recall, would it in any way affect the SYNC version as well?

No, that's powertrain only.
