Did your OTA's all power through in a short space of time? Or was it avalanched manually?
All automatic. I had like 15 in a week. I couldn't even check the status of the recently installed one, because the next one was already downloading. Until it hit a wall (6.14 then BC1.3).

It's such a bizarre process. I seem to get one a month (fairly far behind) on around the same date. It just amused me that it even could run multiple back to back!

No kidding, one day I got 4. I guess that's what happens when you were held back for an year.
The only "speeding" I did was to not wait for the scheduled install times, for the ones that required downtime.

All the GWM, APIM, TCU and IPC updates are all USB based... a powersupply isn't actually necessary when doing USB updates as long as you've started the car and let it run a bit while the software is downloading to your laptop (before copying over to the USB). The reason for this is that after the software has been copied over to the USB drive you're instructed to start the car (POS II) and then insert the USB drive into the console slot while the car is running. So the car is maintaining the 12V battery while it's running.

Hi Mike,
I'm trying to figure out the necessary gear to purchase for installing updates using FDRS. My main focus is on the APIM and possibly a few other independent modules like HVAC, as modules like IPMA aren't relevant to me (no BlueCruise in Israel).

I'm trying to keep costs low, so based on your message above, I’m wondering if it’s possible to avoid buying a massive power supply for USB-based modules.
I may have a small power Supply, Is there a resource where I can check which non-USB modules have modest power requirements so I can focus on those?

Thank you

If you're buying from a Ford dealership make sure they show you where to go in Sync to do a Factory Reset so that you'll be able to clear out the previous owner's settings. Right now your car is not sending in any health status reports because the modem says it's "Not Authorized"...this is normally case when a car has been traded in but the Sync factory reset hasn't been performed to remove the previous owner's settings and passcodes, "Home" location, Charging schedules, seat and mirror settings, etc.

You do have the BC 1.3 OTA pending (IPMA and PSCM modules) and it actually tried to install previously but didn't. After setting up your FordPass, do the Software Updates check and it should say that it's either ready to download or still downloading. So when you get home tell it to "Update Now". You'll get a two minute countdown timer to get out and lock the car and then the update should start.

USB based updates require no powersupply at all (technically). Even though you may be warned that the battery SOC is low...just leave the car running for about 15 minutes and the 12V battery will charge up enough to get above 70% to evade the warning. All USB updates are done with the car fully running. So the DCDC converter is powering the 12V system during those updates.

There are some updates like the HVAC and door modules, as examples, that take 2 minutes. So if you start with a fully charged 12V battery you should have no problem.

Do they even do OTAs in Australia?

The available updates are below:
3FMTR4SX2PMA72079-14-Jan-25.jpg

Note the Additional Updates box....what that's saying is that if the GWM (gateway, car's network controller module) is updated and then the IPC (Instrument cluster) is updated, that a new APIM (Sync) update would become available, and then a TCU (telematics modem) and then another gateway update after that. If they don't do OTAs in Australia, or you're not getting them, you can get behind pretty fast.

That CMR, IPMA, and PSCM are all cruise control related, just so you know.

And if you've ever had issues with pressing the liftgate button and it only goes up a little bit and then stops....that's what that RGTM update is intended to correct.
Thank you so much, the service advisor didn't mention any of them to me, but in particular it sounds like the lift gate one should have been done, I have noticed that issue.

I don't believe Ford do any Mach E OTA updates in Australia, none of the sales staff at the dealerships would know or tell you that though. The Ford website here is an 'almost clone' of the US site but missing lots of relevant info around connected systems. I had heard rumours that Sync would update but not modules, but if that's being held up by network modules updates it doesn't sound like that'll happen either.

The service department are almost definitely going to want to charge me for doing updates (unless they're recommended/required by Ford) and I guess my only other option is hook up to FDRS and do them myself?

FDRS reports what updates have been done and the server then just doesn't offer your car something that it already has. This would obviously cause the owner/observer to conclude that they may be missing something when they don't see some OTA come in that other people are reporting....but if you got the same software updated by a tech using FDRS it's....the same software as whatever the corresponding OTA was going to provide.
Mike, question: are OTA and FDRS updates really 1:1 equivalent? I think to remember that I read a post (from @rugedraw ?) that e.g. for the BC related modules after an FDRS update you still (may) need to apply some FORScan changes to get BC ready and working. And this would be not needed when receiving those updates via OTA. Or did I misunderstood something?

Hi I'm in New Zealand so not sure if you can check my 2023 I just bought new. Car says no updates and our version of Fordpass has very limited functionality compared to the US. We also don't have Blue Cruise available or PAAK. Insane and no one knows why, Australia is the same.

The module software code would be the same.

If you get the OTA for BC 1.3/1.4 then the asbuilt settings get applied after the software code is updated. Javier is correct that the asbuilt settings may or may not get applied if the update is done with FDRS...but it's easy enough to correct.

Welcome! We had another member request info on updates from your area recently...that car was just as far behind as yours appears to be due to shipping, etc.

Thanks Mike! Happy new year!
Hi Mike! Opinion appreciated...

Brought car to my Dealer (who has always been good to me). They had my car for 2 days and said they could not pull any codes regarding he 1 pedal fault, etc. and there were no updates to be applied (including the TSB you referenced).

Wasn't sure how to respond so I just picked up the car.

Are there any updates they should have done (that Ford would cover under Warranty for my 9 month old car)?

Previous post:

For reasons that are not clear Ford started the new year off by apparently archiving all the vehicle DTC and health data that happened before the 1st. So today your car does show some 'historical' (as in "Not currently active") DTCs for the rear and front drive motor controllers but again these are not currently active. Your 12V battery is showing a 75% SOC. Again, since the rear-view data lookup has been cutoff at midnite on the 31st it's not possible to go back further to see what might have happened.

Regardless, saying the magic words "1PD Fault" along with TSB 24-2187 to your service advisor should be enough to get them to update the powertrain modules in the list below (PCM, SOBDMC, BECM, SOBDMB).

Here's the list of available software updates for your car:
