Yes, I called Granger Ford and determined they are selling the Ford OEM extended warranty at a low price. Reportedly they are marking up the cost by only $25. I called Ford direct, to get a quote and it was significantly higher, for the same thing, which seemed odd.

It looks to me, that if you want to purchase the warranty from Granger you have to do it via their website with a Credit Card. I am assuming that just keeps the transaction cost down. Based on my past corporate experience in dealer management, I am sure Ford is probably a bit irritated with their dealer, Granger. However, an OEM cannot dictate retail pricing to a dealership, it is a violation of the Sherman Anti Trust Act and it is illegal, so therefore the dealer gets to price their products as they see fit and it would appear Granger has developed a low cost volume approach. Remember, you can purchase this extended warranty program on any Ford vehicle and anyone can purchase it from any location. So theoretically if they sell 1000 extended warranties in one month, that is $25,000 gross profit! and you can access that webpage from anywhere in North America!

What is surprising to me is the apparent amount of "mark up" in this product at standard OEM prices. What is also surprising is my own dealer did not quote me a Ford extended warranty, they quoted me a warranty from 2 different 3rd party suppliers. i assume that was because of financial returns/incentives.

When it comes to F&I (Finance and Insurance)at a dealership it is not uncommon for a dealer to make more money on a F&I than the gross profit of selling the vehicle .

When I did the Granger “live price” quote for my 23 MME, and looked at what is covered by the warranty, it’s set up for ICE vehicles - no mention of EV parts. What did I miss?

I don’t think Ford is irritated. They likely make the same amount of money regardless of which dealer sells it or for how much. The more warranties sold, the better for Ford.

I didn't purchase the warranty when I got the car, but about 6 months later, changed my mid and was able to still purchase directly from Ford. It was actually cheaper than what the deler quoted when I purchased the car.

And would have been a lot cheaper with Granger, Flood, etc.

Does the extended warranty cover everything in the 3yr/36,000 warranty. Including the 12v?? Anything not covered? Seriously considering the 8 year/60k
miles. I only have 12500 on my 22!! And I love my car and want to keep for 8 years
Already had 12v replaced a year ago

the "Ford Protect" program has volume bonuses to dealers, Granger can sell for less than many dealers' cost due to the volume and bonus. The Ford store I retired from can sell me at their cost and not match the Granger pricing. There are numerous warranty level options that range from major components to a "bumper to bumper" plan so you can choose your level of coverage.

I researched this after having a $1,100 bill for installing updates to my 2021 First Edition that hadn't received an update since last October. From what I can tell the Ford plans offered by Ford (and Granger) would not cover the shop installing what should be OTA updates. Did I misunderstand?

Installing updates just because you want them isn’t covered by any warranty.
If updates are needed to address a problem with the car, then they should be covered.
