Are other EVs this bad?

2024 Mach E AWD Extended Range
I was so excited to buy my first EV in December - a new 2024 extended range Mach E Premium!

it’s been downhill from there - broken mobile charger that ford won’t replace, range under 200 miles, and getting stranded at the airport because the public charger provided drained the battery instead of charging it.

I’m definitely done with Ford, but I’m wondering if other EVs have these same issues. Anyone have any experience with Hyundai or any other EV makers? I won’t do Tesla- I don’t need the public blow-back.

I’m wondering if I should give another EV model a try, or just go back to ICE cars because maybe EV technology hasn’t come far enough to produce an every-day reliable car. Thoughts?

Kind of an interesting place to ask that question ... we're all here as enthusiasts, I think...

Any EV is going to have quite severe range loss in colder weather.

I am very surprised they won't replace the mobile charger, unless there's something I don't know, like they claim mistreatment? That's unforgivable on their part. Also, was this a dealer or Ford corporate?

The issue at the airport ... probably would have been a problem for any car. I am surprised you did not get an alert in FordPass.

Did the dealer give you any reason for denying a warranty claim in the Ford Mobile Charger (FMC)? Try returning the FMC to a different dealer? ??

As others have said, BEVs lose range in colder weather. A BEV can lose upward of 40% of stated range in cold enough weather. It’s just chemistry. ?‍♂?

No experience with a charger draining the car’s main pack. I would assume that is’s the fault of the charger and if it happened to one car it could likely happen with just about any other car. ??

Lot's of "wondering"..... a little research prior to your purchase would have been beneficial. Now you'll just have to put your pants on & figure it out. ?

This makes no sense. Please provide more details.

Range under 200 miles - it's winter; probably normal. A lot also depends on your driving style.
I know range is affected by cold, so maybe losing 30% of range under 60 degrees is normal? I drive gently and don’t use the cabin heat because I know that really sucks down the battery.

As for more detail:
The plastic on the mobile charger adapter snapped off the 3rd or 4th time I used it and pulled it from the car. Ford said it’s the dealer’s responsibility, and the dealer says it’s Ford’s. I’ve owned mostly Toyotas in the past, and they always stood behind their products. Sadly, not Ford.

My airport has dozens of free chargers in their garage. I used one a few weeks ago and it worked great. But the next time I did, it ended up draining the battery, leaving me stuck. Ford responded: never charge the car unattended, so I guess that was my fault. I have no idea if this is a normal Mach E thing, or a normal EV thing. I wish the app would have warned me asap that the charger was draining my battery - I didn’t get an alert until 2 hours later just before the battery was drained empty. I was boarding the plane by then.

All cars, EV or not, have their pros and cons. Percentage of lemons, etc. The MME is middle of the pack in the research I did prior to leasing, but undercuts most of the competition on price.

Returning the charger through a different dealer is a good idea - I’ll give that a try. My dealer said that if they handle the warranty, Ford corporate would just deny it because while the plastic is breaking off in pieces because it still charges. And then the dealer would get stuck - something they don’t want. Hey, I get how they feel - I don’t want to be stuck paying for a new one either.

I assumed the public charger draining was common, as I’ve only used public chargers 4 times, and it drained my battery on 1 off them. The app should have given a warning on that in my opinion.

Yeah, that’s true. Sounds like my experience isn’t typical. Still, I’m stunned at how Ford doesn’t stand behind their cars.

I researched. I didn’t see anything about charges sometimes draining your battery. Learned the hard way.

You trolling? You posting this on a Mach E forum seems like you could be trolling.
I’m trying to figure out how typical my experience is, and if anyone has any suggestions as to how to get Ford to stand behind their cars. They’re all over me about extending Blue Cruise, but want nothing to do with warranty issues.

I guess I need a more general forum to troubleshoot issues. Thanks for the heads up on that.

I talked to both the dealer and to ford corporate about the faulty mobile charger. Both adamantly said the charger issue falls under the other. I’m working to get them on a 3 way call.
