Both adamantly said the charger issue falls under the other. I’m working to get them on a 3 way call.
Ooof. That sucks. I don't say this as any sort of excuse for them, but I haven't experienced really good customer service from ANY car dealer. Ford is a giant company ... they need to create a group just to help us find our way through, and probably to help themselves too.

Ya, I’m guessing if I push hard enough, I can shame the dealer or ford into replacing the charger. Such a pain though.

I really enjoy the driving experience of the Mach E, but I can’t have it as my primary vehicle, clearly.

I assumed the public charger draining was common, as I’ve only used public chargers 4 times, and it drained my battery on 1 off them. The app should have given a warning on that in my opinion.
Public chargers draining the battery is not a thing. I've been driving EVs for 8+ years. In all that time of charging in public never has my high voltage battery been drained. Is it possible that you left the car on in your hurry to make your flight on time? And are you sure the alert you got was for the high-voltage battery and not the 12V battery?

As to the mobile charger breaking, what would be useful would be pictures showing where it broke and the specific damage sustained.

Although I'm still waiting on the install of my home Level 2 charger (using the portable for now), the plan all along was to do 99% of my charging at home and to not use the MME for anything outside the immediate Las Vegas area. A youtuber described it as "infrastructure anxiety", which I agree 100%. Even getting my MME to its first publc charger down the street to test faster charging seemed like a chore, can't imagine relying on it daily or every few days as my only means.

If you can, do home charging and avoid the 'infrastructure fatigue'. If you can't, I would agree that EV life becomes much more problematic. Relying on limited public chargers for power-ups steals a lot of the casualness out of car ownership still available with a ICE vehicle.

Never happened of a charger draining an EV. Owned one for 3.5 years, and am on a dozen forums and never heard this, EVER.

Alos never heard of plastic "pulling back".

You just said something that caught my attention.

The message from the app just said the battery was being drained - likely from 3rd party after market device. Then the car went dead as far as the app is concerned But it didn’t say which battery.

If it was just the 12v battery, what are the ramifications? Would that cause the app to not be able to “see” the car? How would I get that 12v battery recharged?

I’m positive the car was off - it loudly alerts when you open the door and the car is still on. I wasn’t in a rush (this time). And it initially showed a charging error on the app.

Thanks for the 12v insight!!!

I’ve used a public charger 4 times. 1 out of those 4 times it drained the battery. It can’t be that uncommon.

And the plastic broke when I pulled the charger out - clearly a defect. It happens at some percentage to all products, but ford should make it right.

You not saying you left your MME on a charger and boarded a plane are you? And yes, a picture of the broken part would be important for us to see.

There's a recall on some 2024 MMEs related to the 12 Volt battery charging (or in this case discharging). Recall is new, from February 20, 2025. I'm getting my recall performed next week when I have the dealer look at something.

You are the FIRST person that I have ever read that had a charger drain a battery. I have read tens of thousands of posts on EV forums. Never heard of this, not once.

As to the plastic breaking, yes, some chargers have had the latch break after they dropped it.

As to other EVs being this bad? Or worse? Go read some FB pages. Same issues, and more.

Edit - So the 12v battery is what you're talking about? Yes, have people have 12v issues. Never heard of the high voltage battery draining, which is what it seemed you were talking about.

Yes - like dozens of other people there, I plugged my EV in and jumped on a plane. It’s why the airport provides all those chargers.

OK, well having established it was his LVB, you can count 2. I definitely had that happen, specifically with the mobile power cord, because the evse faulted. The car alerted me to the drain and I went to find out the charger faulted. The car kept cycling through trying to charge, which kept the system on and drawing 12V. So there is some situation where having a non-fast charger connected can do this.

I've never seen a public charger, L2 or otherwise, that allowed long term parking. But the car does not lose much charge when simply parked, even if it is cold. I noticed it does not want to be parked with a LOW charge on cold days ... it warns about it.
