Come on, don't exaggerate. 1 hour if you are driving 100mpg...
I get ya, and my intent was not to gaslight, it’s literally what maps indicates if I took a road trip right this moment from home near Chicago to Disney land. Removing Electrify America and sticking with Tesla only improves the minimum between charges to 1h10m and max to 2h12m (median 1h38m) with stop times from 25-60 min (med 30). Haven’t tried to weigh against ABRP

Weather and speed dependant I would expect closer to 2.5/3 hours, more often in cold months. About as often as I'd want to stop anyway.

Is it clear that Apple Maps only identifies superchargers that are compatible with a Mach-E that is equipped with a NACS adapter or might it also identify "Tesla-only" superchargers? Hopefully this issue would have been identified and worked out in advance, but I am curious whether anyone has had a different experience.

(now realizing this car requires 20-30 min stops every 1 - 2 hrs of drive time if taken on a road trip)
Has anyone figured out a way to use Apple Maps for finding good chargers near good coffee shops or restaurants? Or scenic stops? And does Apple Maps prefer more reliable chargers? I currently use ABRP to plan out my route conceptually, then PlugShare to avoid poorly rated chargers, while identifying highly rated chargers near good restaurants or coffee places, or places to enjoy the view, or stretch my legs without walking along a freeway. I will usually use Google Maps to look at the reviews of the restaurants and coffee shops. Finally, I put the charging stops as favourites in the Ford Navigation and execute the trip using Ford Nav, which frees up my phone to focus on music or podcasts, and gives me preconditironing too.

Although my system works well, and isn't even that hard, it uses four "apps" (ABRP, PlugShare, Google Maps, and Ford Nav) so there's a lot of back-n-forth. If Apple Maps preferred reliable chargers, and could help pick restaurant/charger combinations, and preconditioned, I might be willing to switch.

My preference is 2.5 hrs, stop for 20 min coffee and pee, 2hrs, stop for 45min lunch and pee, 3 hrs, pull into home or hotel. If I wanted to spill greasy french fries over the interior of my car instead of enjoying a delicious meal, I'd probably be unhappy about this.

Tesla superchargers can be great, but they aren't usually next to my preferred restaurants, breweries, or coffee establishments, and sometimes they're just in a noisy spot next to the freeway.

Strange how Apple and most others are so poor in showing your route with turns. They don’t want to give you the info on the big screen , but will readily display turn by turn on your tiny that you have to pick up to look at. Waze is similar.
let me tap on display to show the turn by turn just to see the route and if it is good or not. The overall route display is usually too far out and the zoom function is weak.

My summer-fall actually road trips on an ER battery was closer to 3-4 hours.

But that’s driving the speed limit (so 65-70 pending which state). Which is apparently slow compared to many people.

Only if you plan to drive at a sustained speed over 100 mph.

I’m encouraged by the feedback from those of you with actual experience on roadtrips here for sure.

That begs the question then why Maps placed so many charging stops for my unrealistic trip to California from Chicago. Wonder if it factors these winter months. Wonder if it’d adjust on the fly as needed in real time.

I’m willing to bet it would not once you hit go. So if I’m driving blind fully trusting maps, I’m going to be stopping every 1-2 hrs. As opposed to ignoring a turn and rerouting. Perhaps all the stops remain on the CarPlay screen and we simply remove it as we near - risk being that I’d be in unfamiliar territory and may not recognize when it’s diverting me from my end location vs swinging moderately off course to charging station.

I’ll take the wins we got here with knowledge of destination SOC % for the 99.9% of my use cases as well as knowledge that likely in warmer months I’ll get above 200 miles between stops.

Would still prepare for longer trips

In my experience Apple Maps has always been roughly 20% off when planning. While driving, it recalibrated and ended up being accurate over time.

So I stopped using it for planning and use my calibrated ABRPs that has been much more accurate.

Something like a trip from East TN to Orlando FL, 3 stop…I eat lunch at one, dinner at the other. Total trip is about 30 min longer than taking my ICE (but more enjoyable because of BlueCruise).

Over 3 stops is when the difference between taking an ice really starts to add up. IMO.

So… I just did a quick trip to two stops within 5 miles from home and back again and it added a recharge stop… not only that but the EV station wasn’t Tesla but that’s all I have it set to do. Oh and I’m at 80%. 10 miles round trip. Weird.

Hi Mustang Mach-E Owners,

We’re excited to share that starting today, when you use Apple Maps EV Routing in CarPlay to plan your next trip, you can now be routed to a North American Charging Standard (NACS) fast charging station, such as compatible Tesla Superchargers along the way – if you need a charge.

So, how is this new? Apple Maps EV Routing already helps with trip planning – you can view your estimated battery level you will have when arriving at a destination, and see suggested charging stops along the way if charging is needed.

Now, if a charge stop is needed, you may see a route that includes a Tesla Supercharger or other NACS fast charger. Just make sure you indicate your charge preferences in Apple Maps Settings to a NACS fast charging station, such as Tesla Supercharger.

The best part about all of this? It’s available right now! No software update required, just connect your iPhone to CarPlay and hit the road!

Let us know what you think!

How to Use Apple Maps EV Routing in CarPlay:
  • Connect your iPhone to CarPlay

  • Open Apple Maps, go to Settings and confirm your preferred charging network(s) – make sure you select a NACS fast charging station, such as Tesla Supercharger. You only have to do this once!

  • Enter a destination.

  • Apple Maps will then calculate the estimated state of charge you will have when you get to a destination.

  • If a charge is required, depending on the fastest route, it will automatically route you to a NACS fast charging station.

  • Please Note: When planning a route that includes Tesla Superchargers, you may see a warning that the route requires your Fast Charging Adapter – make sure you have it with you. Also, battery preconditioning when en route to a charger is not available for Apple Maps EV Routing.
To learn more about charging with a Fast-Charging Adapter, please visit https://ford.com/fastchargingadapter.

To purchase your own Fast Charging Adapter, please visit https://go.ford/fordadapter.

Hi Brian,
Thank you for this information.
Please have manual precondition software configured and allow Apple Maps precondition for us.
Thank you
Vern

For me.. It never shows my preferred supplier. I only have two on my list after I cleared it out. I tried just adding the Tesla and electrify America. Even knowing I know where some of these are on my trip.. it always shows EVgo as my suggested. So I have to end up mapping to these charging stations myself.

Annoying.

I have a similar experience. Apple Maps *rarely* takes me to a supercharger even if set as the only preferred network. *Sometimes* it does. very weird.

I Have not had occasion to do a long trip this year. But it does appear to work as advertised.
