Misleading... 2023 MMe No foot liftgate, no parking assist... anything else? Any fixes?

I'd need a couple hundred hands for my Job 2.
I’ve never had a kick to open trunk before. I’ve also not had a car since I was a kid, pickup trucks don’t do kick to open. So probably operator error.

I'm really curious about the cause of non-deterministic behaviour of this feature. My wife and I even have different styles to open it; she does the "swipe" motion, while I just do the "kicking" motion - and they both work just as well. We do it just to the left of the license plate.
My theory is that it's the key fob.

You walk up to the car, it recognises your key fob, it's awake, you kick, it opens.

You potter around the car for a while, it wakes, it goes back to sleep, it wakes, eventually it ignores you. You kick, it's passed out cold and only notices you when you curse and press the liftgate button.

No, the North American cars got only the two D-rings (plastic ones in 2023 Job2 and newer). In order to get the front two cargo rings, one would have to have an EU-spec car or have taken part in the purchase of the custom-made rings that we did a couple of years ago. Our forum members bought out the entire stock of rings in Europe in 2022. Ford Europe didn’t get any stock back in until the middle of 2024 because the manufacturer went out of business and they needed everything they had to build new cars for the EU. I don’t know if Oz or Kiwi cars got the front rings. ??
Aus-delivered car here (2023.75). It's got the two flippable plastic silver rings on the lip near the liftgate latch. And two fixed metal rings on the sides near the seats.

It also has parking assist, for what that's worth. Tried it once, it tried to back into another car, haven't tried it again...

Just so I’m not coming across as a complete dick (which some here might argue that I am, btw), these features never worked well on the Mach-E. So you are not missing much.
I'll agree with you on parking assist. I've never even tried in 4 years, but the lift gate works like a champ IF you've figured out that you can't leave your foot under the sensor. It's literarily kick to open. One of the best features on the car IMHO.

Thanks. The main difficulty in parallel parking in tight spaces is the steering part. Ford’s solution is not good because it tries to do too much and makes the driver feel less in control (by pressing a button). Toyota had a better system where the park assist only steers and gives direction to the driver to shift back and forth between reverse and drive and modulate the gas / brake pedals. I didn’t like how far off the curb it parked (because it tries to match my vehicle to the side of the ones I’m parking between and the Prius is too narrow vs an average car).

I had kick to open on a 3d generation Acura RDX. The feature worked fine. You simply had to learn just where to “kick” or swipe your foot under the bumper cover. It is one thing I would like to have had on the 23.5 Mach E.

I added the rear forward side cargo rings. A member in the EU sourced the OEM Ford rings for me, complete in their Ford plastic packaging which included (in Spanish) the line “Made in Mexico”.

I replaced the cheesy plastic rearmost cargo rings with Ford metal rings which seem to be the same as the ones the early Mach Es had.

Ford didn’t design the trunk for actual use. Out of the box it’s more decorative than functional. ??

My 2015 ford truck uses the gas and brake. I don’t believe it will auto stop so you could reverse right into the vehicle behind you if you don’t press the brake. So basically it just steers and tells you when to move the shift lever. I think if it used the gas and brake pedal but auto stopped it would be a much better system.

edit- I don’t use the park assist in either vehicle though. I don’t regularly parallel park, and when I do it’s a higher stress situation to where I don’t want to figure out how to use a system I’m unfamiliar with. I’m also very capable of parallel parking on my own and when I’ve tried the system it’s much slower. So it pretty much never gets used.

You have to try, just for the fun shock factor! First time I tried it was a tight parallel spot on the street with a car full of co-workers, they wanted to see it! I held the button we all screamed in horror the whole time but it worked!

I purchased a used 2023 MME with the extended battery. All user manuals and stickers show I have foot opening of the rear lift gate but doesn't along with parking assist which Ford shut off. Any other surprised that other owners have found?

Anything else on this car which is misrepresented??

We are disappointed with Ford.
If you did any research at all you would have known that the options you are talking about were removed. That’s one of the main reasons I am still driving my 2021 GTPE. The parking assistance is no big deal but the foot kick to open is used all the time. There have not been enough improvements to warrant a trade for a new one. It is a terrific car that I enjoy every day. It has been trouble free other than the contactors replacement which only took two days. It’s three and a half years old and has only had normal maintenance once a year including replacing the 12v battery and charging the brake fluid at the 36 months maintenance. I have the 7 year extended warranty so I am set when they come out with the new model in the next few years to get the updated Mach e GT.

Sorry you had to find out what is missing after buying one. Ive had 3 Mach E's now. Started with the 21 Premium, that did have the liftgate and parking assist with it, along with the camera washer. Loved the liftgate, tried the park assist once-didnt use again, just never thought about it, not sure about the camera washer, i kept it clean any ways. Traded in for a 22 GT/PE, no park assist, and no liftgate, they blame it on chip shortage and covid. i didnt mind no park assist, but they should have removed the button for it if not there. for the liftgate, i bought an aftermarket unit to make the foot liftgate work from ev-vida.com, worked great! also had a friend remove my button in the headlight switch for defrost and put in a liftgage button in its place, though i ended up hardly using it. Now i have a 24 Premium. Again no liftgate or park assist. Again, should have removed the button for park assist if not there. you would think if there was a chip shortage they could have put it back in by now or remove the button. Same for liftgate, how hard would it be to put back in. Again, bought the aftermarket module for the liftgage and it works great. I didnt put the switch back in headlight switch as of yet, probably wont but the foot switch is great. Also on my 24, they removed the door plungers on the front doors when you hit the button to open the doors, so it barely opens when you hit the button. it works but i like the pop out doors better. did they really need to take that out? Enjoy your mach e though, i love all the ones we have had.

Regarding the lift gate, are you referring to "power lift gate" or does it actually say "Foot activated" ? See https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...lue-really-tanked-this-much.30469/post-688377 for example

My 23 model has the kick activated liftgate but I had to install the kit with wiring and sensor. It's been working for a couple of years. A little complex to install but I'm not complaining about missing it.

LOL I took the custom forward cargo rings out of my 2021 and put them into my 2024. I also bought a pair of the rear metal D rings for a 2021 and replaced the plastic ones in my 2024 with them. ??

I completely agree with this statement! This space is far too large, and this car far too "athletic" for Ford to provide no practical means of securing cargo in the back!

My past as a boy scout and a US Army soldier has left many indelible traces. Among them is a compulsion to carry more than the typical complement of emergency equipment in my vehicles (yes, my first aid kit can treat sucking chest wounds and arterial bleeding in addition to dispensing Band-Aids). The subfloor does offer a great option for securing a small amount of this kind of equipment, but I got tired of hearing it thump when I hit a speed jump, so it's in the frunk now.

Interestingly Ford equips the rest of the world, or a large part of it, MMEs with rear side cargo rings we have to add on. Why not the NAM cars??

Same reason that until the 2024 model year the North American MME didn’t even have a threaded receiver for a tow hook in the front bumper. Ford figured they could cheap out on us. ??
