Over the past week, several times when I started charging at home using my ChargePoint Flex Charger, I have started a charging session only to find that the session stops after adding just one or two kW of charge then showing as Complete. The first time it happened was March 18, 2025. If I unplug, wait a couple of minutes, then replug, sometimes it actually completes charging to 100%. Sometimes I have to unplug and replug a couple of times. This is intermittent and does not happen consistently. I have used this Level 2 AC charger at my home for 3 1/2 years and this is the first time I have experienced this issue. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Does anyone have an idea why this may be happening?

On a side note, I have noticed that the default charge level in my Ford Pass App has changed from 100% (which I charge to using my Level 2 AC charger at home) to 95%....probably due to an OTA software release or Ford Pass "upgrade". Do you think this could be related to my intermittent charging issue?

I appreciate any feedback.

Does this still happen if you use the normal recommended charge target of 90%? If you're close to 100% and plug in, it may decide you're close enough to full.

Did you sign up to allow your local utility to stop the charging during high use times. I did, and one time they did stop my charging, but later that night it finished.

Good point, use of Optiwatt or utility-controlled charging can cause this.

No, I typically do not charge at home until I an in th 10% -25% charge remaining at home unless I am taking a trip the next day. Good thought, but no.

I don't believe so. My utility does not provide special rates for off-peak times and to the best of my knowledge do not limit me when I can charge. Also, most of my home charging is done over night starting after midnight. But that also wouldn't explain why I get only one or two kW before it stops.

It seems to me there is either a problem with my ChargePoint Flex Charger or with the MME.

All of the scenarios that you described I've also had with my Flex Charger. I bought new my 2023 MME and ChargePoint charger in August 2024 and a few months ago I woke up only to find the MME did not charge at all. Not only did it not charge but my MME was completely dead. I ended up having to have the MME towed to the dealership and they replaced the 12 volt battery that only had 3.6 volts in it. Looking back I'm kind of wondering if the 12 volt battery was causing the charging issues that I previously had. I have not had any issues with charging since the battery got replaced until recently. I decided to charge the MME to 100 percent and like you noticed that either the Ford Pass app or the MME decided to change it to 95%. I have no idea why it did this.

To be clear it stops successfully, shows in FordPass as "Charge Complete" - there is no charge fault?

I'm on the fence about suggesting you call Chargepoint - in my experience they are pretty good, but if you can't consistently reproduce it with them on the phone I'm not sure how they will be able to help. For the record they sent me a new unit last year before I realized the SOBDM module was the issue, not the charger.

I have the same situation as you... I did not take note, when this first started happening, but timing sounds very close to yours...

My ChargePoint L2 charger (been using it since 2017) is reporting that charge is complete. Ford app says "Charge Fault".

It hasn't happened in the past couple of days, but it is very unsettling... Dealer wants $275 for diagnostics (unless issue is found and considered warranty-covered)

High voltage battery charging is covered by the 8-year EV warranty, but you want to make damn sure it’s the car not the EVSE otherwise you’ll have to pay for diagnostics when they don’t find anything wrong (after the 3/36 warranty is expired). So you need to go out and try a number of 9.6 kW or higher public chargers.

UPDATE: This may be useful to those using ChargePoint L2 Flex Chargers. I recently took a 340 mile round trip to visit one of my business locations. At home, I charged as much as it would let me (to 95% SOC) following a couple of unsuccessful "charging complete" episodes.

When I got to my destination, I charged to 80% at an EVGo DC Fast Charging Station...no issues. I know I would need more than 80% to get back home, so I charged at my business location, L2 using the portable Ford charging unit that can with my car. (When we remodeled that business location I had the electricians run a 240V 50 amp drop with a NEMA 14-50 receptacle outside our back door). I had two short L2 charging sessions, Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, with absolutely no issues and charged to 100% SOC.

With that evidence, I presumed the issues were with my ChargePoint charger. So when I got home, I turned off the circuit breaker to the charger outlet (also a 240V 50 amp, NEMA 14-50) then unplugged the charger from the receptacle. After a couple of hours I reconnected the charger and switched the circuit breaker back on. When the charger completed cycling back on, I plugged it into my MME, and VOILA. No issues, and I was able to charge to 100% at home again.

I am hoping this is more than a temporary fix, but at least I believe I isolated the source of the issues.

Hope this helps.
