Hi All,

Received the free Tesla adapter to use on 22 Mach E from Ford back in November 24. Never used it until today after months of it sitting new in the box.

Went to a Tesla Super Charging station and plugged it in and all I received was an error -

Charging Error - Please check charger for power. Try another stall or contact charge provider.

Tried another stall same error. Anyone else ever have such an issue at a Tesla Super Charger Station?

Everything was put together and clicked as it should but the charging. :(

Thanks

Are you sure it was a Tesla supercharger that was open to non-Teslas?

Not all stations are compatible with non-Teslas. Did you check with the Ford Pass or Tesla or Plug Share apps to make sure it’s open to non Teslas?

If you just pull up to one randomly without checking prior, there’s a high chance it’s Tesla only. Nationwide only about 65% of locations are open to non-Teslas. Some areas that percentage might be higher or lower.

Thanks for the replies. The station in Page, AZ was listed as available to Ford users. Perhaps that changed, beats me. Wasn't a fun day to say the least. Thanks again everyone!

I’ve used mine a few times. Plug in the adapter to the cable first, then plug the whole thing into the Mach E. Should just start working within 30 seconds.

We tried charging at a supported site in Northridge, CA with no luck. The Tesla app earlier in the day showed the site was working. But we went there around 5pm, the app showed it wasn’t available. I have to wonder if they disable charging for non-Teslas during peak times. We eventually charged at the new Frazier Park Mtn site at around 7pm. Got there with 5% SOC. Previously had charged there Tuesday night, so I knew that site was working.

Where did it say it was available for Ford users?

It definitely isn’t because it’s an older 150kW station which are all Tesla only.

The adapter will physically fit any other EV with a CCS1 port. It’s just a “dumb” adapter with no smarts in it.

HOWEVER, the car will need to communicate with Tesla servers to see if it can charge. BMW is not currently on the list of approved automakers to use the Superchargers. Therefore the car still won’t be able to charge even with the dapter at a location open to non-Teslas.

In your Ford App, go to Connected Services to make sure you have activated the BlueOval Charge Network. Go back to the home page, click on Energy at the bottom, then Public Charging, and make sure the Plug & Charge setting is set to Active. Otherwise it will not automatically start charging. Learned this the hard way on a 350 trip.

I agree with all the posts. I tried my adapter w/in about 3 weeks after receiving. Worked great but needed to connect to a 250kW Tesla charger which I only found one location in my area. Fortunately, there are at least 12 charge stations at that location.

The adapters are passive and "dumb" and work on any CCS vehicle that can use the Tesla network. Have used my Ford-issued Tesla adapter a ton on our friend's Rivian.

Thank you. I actually confirmed that with a BMW sales rep before I saw your post. He said they are working on the details with Tesla to offer this soon.

I am driving coast to coast and have used Tesla chargers extensively. I have had little problem with either Tesla or Electrify America. I did have issues with one EA station that charged me to 70% and quit. I just drove on without checking the others.

I ran into a guy taking an EA location down for repairs. I spoke to him about the issue. He told me that sometimes these stations just have a glitch in communications with the servers and you will occasionally have weird results.
