Background: I've owned my Mach E since April of 2021 (50 months) and am using the original 12v battery. I got a replacement 12v battery earlier this year for free using my Ford points. It's just sitting on a shelf in the garage. I've watched videos on how to replace it, I especially like the lady who did it without removing the funk, so I'm capable of replacing it. I intended to do it right away but have seen absolutely no signs of any issues with the current 12v battery, so I've just procrastinated.

What do you think? How long do you think the current battery will hold out? What are the symptoms of a dying 12v battery?

If it's just procrastinating, and you have the battery, just replace it. I replaced mine, free with points like you, a bit before 3 years. Why risk it's dying at an inconvenient time?

I took delivery of my car in late July 2021. No LVB issues until last week.
There were no indications that it was about to die. The night that it died there was some odd HVB charging behavior, and FordPass stated it was unable to connect to the car. I went out in the morning and it was stone dead. No response when pressing the door buttons or key fob buttons.
I ordered a new LVB from Rock Auto and installed it when it arrived a couple of days later. I charged it to 100% prior to installation. Opening the frunk via the leads behind the front bumper cover worked fine. As a note, it takes a couple of seconds after you apply 12V to the leads for the release motor to start its double-pull sequence. I had a brief 'oh :poop:' moment and wondered how I was going to get in there. LOL. The BMS reset procedure worked easily. Which is more than I can say for the seatbelt chime disable procedure.
Looking back, I probably should've replaced it as preventative maintenance. Since it happened in my garage and I WFH, it was no big deal. Definitely would have sucked to deal with if it happened out in the world somewhere.

Since you live in a hot climate, I strongly recommend you preventively replace the 12V battery at 3 years since manufacture. There will be no warning before it fails.

Was just mentioning this to my wife this morning. Time to order a battery and get it replaced. Just over 3 years old. With my luck it would happen when we are out berry picking next month if a bear were to show up!

Look at it this way: The battery you have sitting on the shelf is aging. Why not replace the old one and use the new one? ?‍♂?

I'm sure that's good advice, and I will consider purchasing a replacement 12 volt battery with the refund I hope to get from the dealership for the car rental.

Regarding my "WORST FEAR" (about the car, for clarification): Attached is the Invoice on the work (2 pages). A lot of reprogramming on a car (built "11/23") with only 5700 miles on it. Drove the 20 miles home with no issues. Was told by someone at the dealership that Ford took back all their "Loaner/Courtesy" cars after YKW destroyed electric vehicle incentives (and, I suspect, will ensure some continuing punishment for his former bro's electric car business). Really appreciate the support here.

I haven’t heard that all loaner/courtesy vehicles have been pulled. My dealer uses ICE vehicles exclusively as loaners (usually Escape SEs that are a couple of years old - no biggie. Occasionally, I get lucky and score a Lincoln loaner ?)

I had to go to Enterprise. Got a tiny ICE Mitzubishi Mirage for $50+/day. Those kinds of "courtesies" are at the "dealership discretion." I picked a smaller dealership after consistent issues with my former HUGE dealership. My bad.

But seriously, as Steve suggests, install it. There's no reason to play Russian Roulette.

I'm at 45 months, so by your example, I've got at least another 5 in her. I suppose I should probably bite the bullet now though.

Yep, it's better than being caught without your shock collar at the duck blind. ??

Shock collar? My parents tried that on me when I was a kid - I just kept asking for more ?

No self-respecting retriever goes hunting without one. ??
