On today's @Ford Motor Company earnings call, Jim Farley said, "We have scheduled an event on Aug. 11 in Kentucky where we will share more about our plans to design and build breakthrough electric vehicles in America.” He also said it will be a Model T moment for Ford!

This article from last month in Ford Authority seems to indicate it will be an electric Ford Ranger.

A ranger EV doesn’t seem like a “model T” moment to me. GM is flooding the zone while Ford is trickling one tiny little drop at a time. I’m underwhelmed, tbh. We also know that pickups and EVs are like oil and water. There’s just no demand for them.

Of course, that part is just speculation from Ford Authority. I hope they have something flexible enough to be the underpinnings of several variants.

I could use a Ranger EV, or something that rides nicer than my MME with a touch more bed room (I have a Traveler on order but we'll see when that actually gets delivered and how painful first year(s) will be with it). I did see a GMC EV Silverado thing at Costco, but the price outweighs the usefulness of a truck for me.

Patrick, thank you for sharing. I’m cautiously optimistic based on your reporting. To be honest, I have fully expected Ford to quietly exit the EV business, leaving a few token hybrids/plug-in hybrids behind. I just don’t think the current environment is nurturing to the development and growth of the EV market. 🤷‍♂️

I want a Ford Focus (RS) or a Fusion (RS). At the turn of the last century (I’m old), there were a wealth of hot hatches. I went for the VW GTI and have regrets that I didn’t go for the Focus. I actually saw a used one at the dealership when I was buying the MME and was super tempted. But I have two growing daughters to cart around, so I stuck with the MME.

I love the speculation.

If there is a next Ford EV, could it be a relative of a Chinese vehicle? Could it be built on a Chinese designed platform and made here in the US? Have you read that Jim Farley is impressed with the Chinese cars? Would this help to circumvent tariffs and import restrictions? What do you think?

My 13yr old, 5ft 8in daughter does NOT enjoy being in the back seat of our Focus. So I'm with you there.

I mean, Rivian's R1T seems to be doing relatively well?

He also said it will be a Model T moment for Ford!
The Model T took about 15 months to go from concept to production.

I suspect whatever Ford announces next month will take a lot longer. Many years longer.

Do you accept bean-spilling bribes? ;)
I only accept positive conversations in this forum to show my manager that I'm doing a great job.
