A ranger EV doesn’t seem like a “model T” moment to me. GM is flooding the zone while Ford is trickling one tiny little drop at a time. I’m underwhelmed, tbh. We also know that pickups and EVs are like oil and water. There’s just no demand for them.
What if the Model T moment is not the vehicle, but that Ford will manufacture all the components, modules, motors, wiring, batteries, etc. for the next generation of EVs?

Customers don’t care. We need to hear about cars we can drive.

Yes, but investors and the stock market care.

Likely we will get both and new vehicle and a new EV platform.

I would laugh if it was the Ford Courier compact EV truck and the new platform

If you want to get back to the basics, one just has to ask why was the model T important?

And the answer is it made the car affordable by for the common man. One of the things I have seen, is even with ICE cars, is that affordable hasn’t been their trademark for a long time.

if they want to sell to the masses, they would have to figure out how to do that again.

I know. But you’d be surprised how many truck owners obsess over those use cases even though they don’t ever use them.
I’ve went through this once where I was like: “I should look at getting a truck” and the more I thought about it the more that I realized that an SUV that could tow a trailer met most of my use cases. I haven’t felt like I was missing out at all.

According to John McElroy (Auto Journalist) Ford will NOT show a prototype in person, maybe virtually.

ford has lots of Trademarks including “Ranger Thunder” and “Ranger Splash

That's a cancelled project. This will undoubtably be a platform unveil in my opinion. Farley's been talking about the "skunkworks" project for a couple years now, and in all the conversations he's had with media outlets point to a slate of affordable EVs. He's been talking about China's EV dominance and subsequent success in third world markets for a while, I think he wants to get ahead of in before they start importing them, or manufacturing them here.
It wasn't cancelled everywhere.....

99% or the the trucks on the road never do those things, but people still want to drop near 100 grand on them.
Really, care to share where your data comes from, I'm guessing not as it's probably just your personal opinion?

That’s the rebadged VW EV that’s Europe-only.

Yes the Capri and Explorer made it in other markets, we're talking about an unveiling of something previously unannounced, and ostensibly for the US market.

Truck bashing based on under utilizing has its irony.
I mean the percentage of vehicles driven daily in America with 1 person in it is pretty indicative of the underutilization of the vast majority of utility that every vehicle offers. The back seats in most used cars look pristine! 🤣

Trucks are just part of the culture in some places. They ARE the Camry of Texas. I think I read somewhere that 25% of pickup trucks sold in the US are registered in the Lone Star state.

This new platform will have a small EV truck. I think a Maverick type EV is a no-brainer. Although I'm not sure any EV is going to sell like "hot-cakes", so to speak. Of course the term is subjective. Ironically, and in my opinion, only pickup trucks with pistons perpetually meet that standard.

Anecdotes...

look in the beds of used trucks at your favorite dealer... few have scratches in the bed or even paint scratches on the hitch receiver.

There are dozens of threads on the internet saying directionally the same thing... the majority of trucks never haul or tow stuff... there are no threads I could find that says that the majority of trucks are used for "truck stuff" on any regular basis.

A small EV truck awaits those cheaper battery packs. I don't think the wait will be all that long. Friend just went from a higher end sports sedan to a hybrid Maverick. He couldn't be happier with it. Recent views I've read all concur.
