UPDATE :

Situation is resolved with OP.

We received the email from OP at 11:16AM today, we started investigating with UPS as 2 packages out of 100 get customs. We are investigating whether this is a mistake, wrong HS code or no HS code whatsoever on these orders, because this is totally random and does not make sense.

A2Z does not engage in shady practices or keeps people's money for no reason. Turn around time for email responses is generally 24 hours or less, unless urgent.
The phone call was missed as we are overwhelmed, but we do return all business day missed calls by the end of every business day.

As of now, we are talking with UPS in order to reschedule a delivery tomorrow and pay for the duties. If this is impossible, we'll send a new package with overnight at our own expenses.

De minimis remains in effect, this is a mistake from UPS and customs.

One of our team members is on the phone with UPS right now.

This is it. We are here for the customer and this will never change.

same here. Canada has 35% tariff, but de minimis should have applied. However, if country of origin is China, then I think it would be different.
Would love somebody to clarify that.

I ordered something (non-Ford related) from EU, should know soon...
Google Gemini agrees with above comment: if the product is made in China and shipped from Canada to US, China tariffs apply. Those vary by product, so it would be classification dependent. Did not dig further

My thought is WTF. 100% Trump Tax plus brokerage fee. I get it that the cables originated in China. but nearly everything does now unless you get an exemption (Apple, et al).

If you refuse the package, will A2Z refund your purchase price or charge a restocking fee? A2Z just lost the American market for sure.
Not sure there are alternatives.

The product is made in China and you are paying the China tariffs.
Unfortunately, you are probably getting compounding tariffs. China AND Canada. It is a political issue, not an A2Z issue for sure. A2Z will do their best to make it right, but they cannot change policy.

That's not how tariffs work. The US govt can't charge tariffs on goods that enter Canada they can only tariff on goods that come into the US, it doesn't matter for US customs if it entered other countries before coming to US customs. That said, if A2Z is manufacturing in China and then warehousing in Canada to distribute when people buy adapters, the Canadian govt can impose their own tariffs on the adapters coming into Canada. A2Z would have paid those tariffs before they entered the warehouse and would have included that in the price of the adapter when people go to buy them. That's not something UPS would be charging to the US customer.

I think you misunderstood me. Canada is not charging the tariffs. When the product enters the US, US customs tasks UPS (and all carriers) to tariff the product because it is made in China, the copper because it is high copper content AND may tariff it again because it is coming from Canada - If UPS doesn't understand how to apply the tariffs or is jumping the gun on the tariff effective dates, you'll get compounded US customs applied tariffs. Not saying it is right or wrong, correct or incorrect, but it is real. I've seen it recently with boat parts coming from Europe too - some things have more than doubled in price because of this.
I'm hoping A2Z is able to straighten it out with UPS for the OP, but there will be many instances of cases like this going forward with the multiple levels of US applied tariffs.

A2Z is a Canadian company that uses a Chinese supplier(s).

Under the current USMCA rules of origin, items originating in countries other than Canada or Mexico are subject to different tariff rates. Unfortunately, the current situation with tariffs that change on a whim leads to all sorts of confusion and obfuscation of true costs.

The new tariffs only affect items not covered by USMCA. De Minimis ends August 29th. Sounds like Customs was looking at one thing and ignoring the other.

The problem lies not with A2Z.

On paper, China tariff is 30% until Aug 12 and Canada is 35% as of Aug 1st. Lots of exemptions for both.

Thank you A2Z from the owner himself who called me personally.

Appreciate you making it right for a good customer of yours....

Seems like a small number are being targeted with these import customs fees - it's not equal on all shipments.

Issue appears to be resolved - A2Z has paid the customs fee and UPS is now rescheduling for delivery.

Similarly, credit cards are pretty liberal about chargebacks, but if you refuse the package on purpose and UPS has the proof of that, you might very well lose. Typically chargebacks are for when the seller 'did something wrong' and our tariffs are not really their business.
Wait! Weren't we told that the other country would be laying the tariffs--not Americans? 😂😡

In my experience UPS is not willing to eat the cost of sending the package back because the recipient changed their mind. That means either A2Z will need to pay that additional return shipping cost just to give you a refund, or you will need to pay the cost of getting it back to Canada to get your refund.
ummmmmm...no.
