well, they're telling some folks (particularly GT customers) that their orders may slip into 2022. I suspect very few if any changes

  • LED lights will be in the back as well as the front
  • Driver seat has two-way adjustable tilt
  • Battery has 15% larger capacity
  • Larger tires now come standard
  • Front Pony is LED on Premium trim now
  • Backup beep is gone

(Disclaimer: these are strictly rumors and originate from me and I have absolutely made them all up.)

Great. May as well put mine up for sale now and go out a deposit on the 2022. I need that light up Pony.

IMO - I assume they will keep everything as-is for about 18 months due to the delay in getting the models out. They'll continue to run these trims/specs. And then make a larger push for 2023 to compete even more directly with GM and Tesla as both regroup and make a large effort to out-do eachother.

I think 2023-25 will be very interesting for these models.

Also - KEEP IN MIND, they want everyone who's Ford Options expire in 2024 to have a strong reason to get a brand new Mach E or better!

Flip side of this - what changes would make you likely to upgrade your '21 MY to a new one?

For me, a simple increase in range wouldn't be enough (unless it's +20% or more). A small increase to the 0-60 time also wouldn't do it.

Maybe a sunroof that actually opens? A light up pony badge for non GT trims. And an option for larger wheels on non GT trims.

to get me to update my '21 to a '22, I'd need Ford to refund my Virginia sales tax on the '21.

Serious guess:
-No real changes for 2022 models except fixing build defects like the pano roof.
-New colors
-Maybe a faster tablet screen since that's a drop-in option

MY 22? Nothing except new colors possibly
MY 23? New colors, feature changes, package additions and changes (maybe things like ventilated seats, reclining rear seats, etc)
MY 24? Styling updates and possibly drivetrain updates. Google replaces sync 4. Higher performance model available.
MY 25? Magic happens?

Remember by the time they get to model year 24 the battery F-150 will be out, and they also have a placeholder announcement for this year on their calendar, so there's a good chance there will be a third all-electric out there. They'll probably have a new base EV platform revision ready by then, and will also have a better handle on filling in all of the various slots of their lineup. The Mach E won't have to straddle the Escape-to-Explorer range, they will be closer to having specific vehicles for each segment
