Today I was parking on the side of a business when my Mustang accelerated full throttle. Luckily I had time to break before I slammed into the building!! There were no cars in front of me obviously so I doubt it has anything to do with the cruise control. I read there was a recall for this issue with a small number of 21-22 models. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have an appt. for service but needless to say, I'm not really comfortable driving it now!

Full throttle, really?
Can you provide any more details?

There just isn’t a situation where the car would accelerate like that without the go pedal being pressed.

I had my foot lightly on the brake as I was slowing into the parking stop when the car accelerated. That's when I put full pressure on the brake to stop just in time.
Here is the link about the previous recall. I'm really hoping it's just a software issue.

Were you using cruise control on that drive previously?

It’s possible you accidentally hit the “resume” button.

How light was your foot in the brake? Do you use 1PD?

Just looking for more possible causes. Scary either way.

No, I wasn't using cruise control previously- I was traveling in town (driving 25 mph). I did consider if cruise control was the reason but it doesn't seem so.

I just turned into the parking spot, so breaking had just begun.

I don't use 1PD.

I appreciate all of the questions. Until my service appointment on December 6th, I'm going to be very leary to drive it. Luckily I work remotely!

Sorry in advance for the dumbest question of all-

You are positive you didn’t mistake the gas for the brake?

That unfortunately happens all the time around here.

I had a car pulling into a parking spot in front of my office that then jumped the parking stop and slammed into my wall a few years ago for this very reason!

Yup, those are the airbags deployed.

Speaking of cruise control, I seem to hit my cruise button often when turning. Somehow my palm swipes it and usually I only know because my car will notify me that adaptive cruise is not available right now. I'm usually in a parking lot backing out of a space. Not sure if something like that is possible in your situation where you hit the cruise button while turning the wheel and it actually engaged. I better retrain my hand positions before that happens to me if that is the case.

Believe me, I've been questioning my own actions but I know my foot was on the brake lightly because it's the only thing that saved me from plowing into the brick wall. I switchef off the adaptive cruise control since then, fearing that was the issue.

Also on the way home from that event, as I backed into my garage, the car slammed on the brakes (rear collision assist was on). But there was absolutely nothing behind me and it had not done before during the other 20+ times I parked in the garage. So it's got to be software. I'll post what Ford service says after the appt.

I've had this same thing happen a couple times. Almost always right after start, pulling out of parking space in a structure. Unsure if it was addressed in an update (of which I've gotten VERY FEW) since it hasn't happened in a couple months.

My 23 has accelerated on its own a couple of times but not full throttle. In both cases I had pulled out of a parking space and was driving down the lane. I use 1PD and my foot was off the accelerator pedal when instead of slow the car started to accelerate. I just jammed on the brakes after which it was fine. No cruise control active.

Ok, so I'm not alone. Definitely not safe.

In the recall notice it's said: "Ford has not issued instructions to stop driving your vehicle under this safety recall. You should contact your dealer for an appointment to have your
vehicle remedied as soon as practicable. You can continue to drive your vehicle."

I read that too. I have an appointment. It's not an experience I want to repeat so I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Hey there. Can you please send over a message with your VIN and the name/location of your local Ford dealer? I would like to look into your acceleration concerns.
