I remember when working at a retail store, every once in a while someone would scratch out their credit card number on the signed receipt. I’d just roll my eyes since we have the number stored in the system anyways.
I spent my career in payments, the last dozen of which were doing payment security innovation at a major card brand. Credit card fraud used to be much less difficult, with card numbers and little else often being exploitable for fraud. Paper with card numbers, yes even at merchants, was definitely a source of fraud... Those customers weren't behaving irrationally.

As for VINs, well Mike simply said he would not make his public. No harm in that.

In the case of our store, we had to enter their CC #s in the computer system, so hiding the number from us seemed pointless. I could maybe understand it for a merchant that just swipes and hands the card back to you.

But I guess the CC example was a bad analogy since people actually COULD do something with your info.

For the VIN, he was telling other people to hide theirs.

I would argue spreading irrational fear is harm.

But if anyone can point out a single case of something bad happening when someone who was breaking no laws posted their VIN online……… I’ll take it back and admit I was wrong.

Maybe there is some danger I’m not aware of??‍♂

How long had you been driving down the mountain road and was it steep? The reason I ask is because the regen has limitations and cannot be used for an extended period of time without overheating.

Just curious what is the correct way to drive downhill to avoid the potential overheating - 2-pedal, Whisper?

Because the Mach E uses “blended braking,” there really is no correct or incorrect way.

If you hit the L button though it’ll keep you from wearing your feet out as you won’t have to hit the brakes as much.

But if you use 1 pedal, 2 pedal, and any mode…… all use regenerative braking.

Only thing that uses friction brakes alone is putting it in neutral. But DO NOT drive like that.

I would love to do some research on this. Do you have the sources.
Apparently this is not the case with Tesla EVs.

It was previously stated on these forums. If you had an ODBII adapter and the CarScanner app, you could collect your own data while driving down a mountain or towing behind a truck. I would expect ambient temps play a role as well.

Apparently not a problem with Rivian nor Tesla.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the existence of a Youtube video is not proof that no such problem exists.

That said, I suspect what the OP experienced is not related (at least directly) to descending a hill.

It’s not the case with our cars either. We are always using regenerative braking.

In fact I’m not sure there has been a case of people “overheating” a Mach E at all.

28 months of driving an AWD ER MME around upcountry Hawaii. I have a set of roads I drive on that involve a longer continuous descent and ones that are quite steep. Not a hint of trouble so far. I'd take the car to the dealer to get the issue logged at least.

Way back when there were a few reports of MMEs having problems on long descents. It was fixed with an update and I haven't seen anyone post about it since.

Hi there, I'd be happy to look into your Mach-E concerns on my end. Will you send us a message with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into things on my end.
I'm confused with this account, what do you guys do exactly? I've dm'd twice with issues and got 0 follow up after giving a lot of info. Do you create tickets? Try to get ahold of dealers? Genuinely curious why I would give out personal info again to an account that has done nothing I can tell in the past.

I have noticed the same.

I think the outreach on their part is mostly a pre-emptive thing.
My guesses :
1) They probably want to make sure you're actually an owner of the Mach-e and experiencing the problem(s) you've posted about. Not all posts on the internet are truthful.
2) In case you start rage-posting later, they now have a way to contact you offline to sort things out in a non-public forum.

Seems pretty reasonable actually. Keep in mind that a dealer is your designated Ford representative for resolving issues with the vehicle. Corporate Ford has made efforts by escalating certain issues thru a special BEV team, but ultimately your dealer performs any diagnosis and fixes. If your dealer is not resolving your situation, then find another dealer.

Did you send them your VIN and dealer info?

If so, they create a service ticket and contact your dealer.

When I did this it made my service experience much easier/faster.
