Hi guys,

I had an electrician come over and install a 240v on a 50 breaker amp to charge my Mach E. After watching the inside EV’s charging video. On the video he says it should get around 21 miles per hour on the charge but from my picture you can see I’m only getting 11 miles per hour on charge. It also says ac basic. Any idea why?

thanks!

edit: using the Ford mobile charger

I have learned that FordPass gets confused easily. Let it charge and you should be fine. What is the max charge rate of the EVSE you are using?

I don’t mean to sound stupid but what does EVSE mean? Lol
Electric vehicle supply equipment. Preferred to charger because it's technically not a charger the car has that. It just provides the power.

Electric Vehicle Service Equipment.
It isn't really a charger because that is in the car. The home device is basically a power supply that powers the charger in the car.

If DC Fast Charging then that is called an EVSE too, but that device is actually a battery charger.

Most people call EVSEs a charger because it is simpler and easier to say.

I think it is 32A.
Just make sure the adapter plug is fully seated in the unit and it should be fine. They require some extra effort to seat the plug correctly.

It is extrapolating 5kw (which is probably 5.8 or so rounded down) to be 11 miles - in other words it is computing 2 mi/kwh in the app. Your car is also very likely kicking in conditioning to cool the battery, and with the heat and conditioning you're only getting around 6kw/h instead of 6.5.

the app is wrong; forget the "miles added" and only worry about the kwh/% added. The app is using the same incorrect algorithm as the GOM.

You are fine. The car is fine. The charger is fine.

What color(s) are you seeing on the front of the charger?

Bill,

Others have explained this. Let me elaborate. Level 1 is the standard 110 volt charging, Level 2 is the 240v charging you are doing. Level 3 is DC Fast Charging, also called DCFC such as Electrify America. These are rated at different rates.

I would recommend downloading the A Better Route Planner. The Mach-E Vlog has some great videos on charging as well as Tom Molagny (sp?) on You Tube. Search for his channel - State of Charge.

Enjoy your new car!

I forget where I read it, but I think the Ford Mobile charger might only be 30A but I could be mistaken

It is best not think of miles/hour but %/hour. Percent is a constant (on a new battery) while the guesstimate range miles/hour will vary considerably with temperature speed driving habits etc. The battery is 88 KWh so at 7.7 kw (?) and 15% efficiency loss it would be about 7.5% an hour (0.85 * 7.7 / 88). How many miles depends and will vary. This is a rough estimate and charging conditions will also impact charging speed.
